They say history has a way of repeating itself. If you’re a Magic fan, you’re hoping that’s the case on Wednesday night in Philly. Just two days after upsetting the 76ers on their home court, Orlando will look to pull off the feat again.

Online sportsbooks however, aren’t banking on a repeat performance. Philly opened up as the heavy home chalk in the NBA odds, even with the Sixers best player questionable to play in Wednesday’s NBA lineups.

That of course would be Joel Embiid, who seems to be a legit question mark leading up to every game. In spite of Embiid’s status, the 76ers are 9-point favorites, in a game without a total as of Tuesday night.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 pm ET at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA, and will mark the fourth and final meeting of the season between these two teams.

Magic vs 76ers Betting Trends

Embiid, a top-four NBA MVP odds contender, is still dealing with a sore foot. He was questionable to play prior to Monday’s game, but still suited up and put on a show. The Process led the 76ers with 30 points and 11 rebounds, marking the 27th game this season where he’s put up at least 30 points.

Embiid has reached 30 points in nine of his past 10 starts, but certainly wasn’t flawless against the Magic. He had a team-high six turnovers and got into foul trouble in the final frame. He was instrumental in helping Philly build a 21 point lead, but he couldn’t prevent the eventual Orlando comeback.

From the second quarter on, the Magic outscored the Sixers by 23 points. The victory snapped a three-game slide for them, and it was their latest win over a high quality opponent. In addition to beating Philly, they’ve also posted three wins over the Celtics, the NBA Championship odds favorite. Orlando has beaten the defending champion Warriors twice, as well as two of the West’s other top contenders in the Suns and Mavericks.

The Magic (20-31, 7-18 away) have shaken off a dismal 6-20 start, and are 15-11 overall in their past 26 contests. NBA ROY odds frontrunner Paolo Banchero buried 29 points against the 76ers, marking his 27th 20+ point game of the season. Mo Wagner splashed 22 points, while baby brother Franz buried 19.

With one of the league’s youngest rosters it’s no surprise that Orlando had some growing pains early in the season. Now that the team is acclimated to each other and the NBA grind, they’re proving they have a ton of potential and will be a tough out every night.

Philly meanwhile, saw it’s seven-game winning streak snapped with the loss. Tobias Harris and James Harden each added 17 points for the Sixers, but their defense continued its recent trend of underwhelming.

NBA Defensive Rating Ranks – Last 4 Games

Team Rank
Portland Trail Blazers 30
Philadelphia 76ers 29
Atlanta Hawks 28
San Antonio Spurs 27
Brooklyn Nets 26

The 76ers (32-17, 19-8 home) grade out sixth in defensive rating for the season, but lately they’ve looked like a bottom-feeder at that end of the court. Over their last four games they’ve surrendered an average of 124.5 points per game. That’s worse than every other team during that stretch except the Trail Blazers.

Magic vs 76ers Predictions

The suspect Philly defense has caused the majority of their games to clear the total recently. With no total market to target in this matchup yet however, let’s look at how the 76ers defense has affected their spread trends.

Philly may have been on a seven-game winning streak, but they’re just 4-5 ATS in their last nine games. They’ve fallen into a habit of raising their game (and covering) against contenders like Denver and Sacramento, but playing down to lesser opponents (and not covering). That was the case earlier this week against the Magic, and last week against the Lakers, Jazz and Thunder.

Orlando on the other hand, is trending up. They have the second best cover rate in the entire NBA (58%), and have beaten the spread in eight of their past 10. Dating back to December 5th, the Magic are an incredible 20-7 ATS.

Pick: Orlando Magic +9 (-110)
