  • The Detroit Pistons are 2.5-point road favorites to even up their Round 1 series vs the Orlando Magic in Game 4
  • Detroit is a Bottom-4 scoring team so far in the playoffs

The top seed in the Eastern Conference is starting to feel the heat in Round 1 of the NBA Playoffs.

Now, the Detroit Pistons (60-22, 28-13 away) need a win in Game 4 to even up their best-of-7 series with the upstart Orlando Magic (45-37, 25-15 home), before things get really uncomfortable.

The books aren’t sweating it yet, setting the Pistons as road favorites in the NBA odds.

Tip-off is scheduled Monday night at 8pm ET from the Kia Center in Orlando, with NBC and Peacock providing the broadcast coverage.

Read below as I share my Pistons vs Magic prediction, a few of my favorite best bets and betting splits for Game 4.

Pistons vs Magic Prediction

  • Pick: Pistons ML (-140 at bet365)

Detroit was the eighth-highest scoring team in the NBA this season, dropping 117.8 points per game, but they are struggling to get buckets in this series, which has turned into a grindhouse. Detroit is scoring just 101.3 points per game, and have a high of 105 points through three games.

All-world Cade Cunningham is doing his part, averaging 31 points and eight assists, while shooting 46.4% from the floor, but there are only two others averaging double figures in the series.

One of those player is not all-star big man Jalen Duren, who is registering just 9.0 points and 8.3 rebounds for the series. He fouled out in 27 minutes in Game 2, totalling just eight points in Detroit’s 113-105 loss to trail 2-1 in this series.

The Magic continue to be an unpredictable squad — even to themselves.

After an impressive 112-101 win in Game 1, Orlando mustered a season-low in points in a 98-93 drubbing. With Detroit seemingly restoring order, the Magic took control of the series again, shooting a crisp 15-for-33 from 3-point range (45%), while winning the rebound battle and holding the Pistons to 34% from beyond the arc.

After struggling all series, Desmond Bane finally found the touch, drilling 7-for-9 from distance en route to 25 points, matching teammate Paolo Banchero for team high in scoring.

But can they stack two good performance together? While that’s tough to answer, we do know that Detroit was the NBA’s best team this year bouncing back after defeat, posting an 18-5 record. Orlando was just 23-24 coming off a win.

While the Pistons need to get their scoring together, I expect them to show the form of a 60+ win team, and get this series back on equal footing.

Pistons vs Magic Best Bets

Pick 1: Jalen Duren OVER 15.5 Points (-115 at bet365)

Like most young players, Duren is finding out that the playoffs, for whatever reason, is a different beast. I am betting on his resiliency, as well as his impressive play against the Magic of late.

Prior to this series, Duren had scored at least 16 points in five of his last six against the Magic in the regular season. Detroit can’t advance unless their big man gets into the playoff picture. I’m confident Cade and JB Bickerstaff find ways to get their big man into the action.

Pick 2: Desmond Bane Under 2.5 3-Point Makes (-170 at bet365)

After making just three triples in 15 attempts in Games 1 and 2, Bane found the range with his 7-for-9 performance in Game 3.

But that performance is more outlier than the norm of late, as Bane has hit three or more triples in a game just twice in his last eight games. In four regular season games against Detroit since joining the Magic, he’s shooting just 31.6% from 3-point range, making at least three 3-pointers in a game just once.
