After an impressive start to their East coast trip, the Phoenix Suns could see it end with their first three-game losing streak since January.

To avoid it, they’ll have to win in New York against the Knicks, who are seeking their 10th straight win.

If that sounds jarring, imagine how the oddsmakers are trying to handicap this: even with the Suns playing on the second half of a back-to-back and the Knicks surging, Phoenix is still a 2-point road favorite.

Suns Burned for Consecutive Losses

After besting 3rd-seeded Milwaukee and 2nd-seeded Philly to open the trip, the Suns have taken two pretty definitive L’s.

In Boston Friday night, the Suns couldn’t make a shot, dropping a 97-86 decision. They were just 6-for-35 from three point range and committed 17 turnovers. It was the second time in four games they had failed to crack 100 points. They’d done that only once before the entire season.

Against Brooklyn Sunday, they couldn’t stop the offensive onslaught.  Freshly-returned Kevin Durant had 34 points, while Kyrie Irving added 33 and 12 assists, as Brooklyn cruised in this potential Finals preview, 128-119. Devin Booker led Phoenix with 36 points, while Deandre Ayton had 20 points and 13 rebounds.

Chris Paul, who had 22 points, eight rebounds and eight assists against Boston, was held to 14 points, eight assists and four board against the Nets.

Now 42-18, the Suns are a full two games behind the Utah Jazz for first place in the Western Conference with 12 games to go in the season.

Phoenix not only blew chance to pull within a game of Utah as Jazz lost Saturday to T-Wolves, they're now tied with Clippers, who own the tiebreaker over #Suns.

Jae Crowder, who’s been out the last two games with an ankle injury, is listed as questionable for Monday’s game against the Knicks. Dario Saric, who also sat out Sunday with a sore ankle, should be a go Monday.

Knicks’ Offense Clicking

What a ride for the New York Basketball Knicks.

They’ve ripped off nine wins in a row to move seven games over .500 at 34-27, into sole possession of fourth in the Eastern Conference.

New York has shifted their fortunes this year by playing an elite-level defense, which ranks first in points allowed (104.7 a game), and first in both field-goal shooting defense (44.2%) and 3-point shooting D (33.7%).

But this recent run hasn’t been dominated by defense, though they’ve ranked seventh in points allowed and three-point defense. It’s their suddenly potent offense that has carried them. Over the past nine games, New York is putting up 118.6 points a game, which ranks fourth in that sample, and a major step-up from their usual 106.9 points a night (26th).

They’ve also found the range from downtown, hitting at a 41.7% clip, which ranks second, and 48.3% from the field, which is sixth-best during this streak.

The catalyst all year has been forward Julius Randle, and he was again in their latest win against the Raptors, going for 31 points and 10 boards, while drilling 5-of-7 from downtown. That’s the sixth game he’s gone for 30+ during this streak, including a pair of 40-bombs in wins over the Hawks and Mavericks.

RJ Barrett, emerging as the star sidekick, had 25 points, 12 boards and four assists against the Raptors. While he’s scoring 17.8 points per game in April, down from 20.2 in March, his extended range is making a difference in the Knicks’ spacing. Through April, Barrett is connecting on 49.3% of his 5.5 three-point attempts per game.

What’s the Best Bet?

Even with their recent stumbles, Phoenix is still 8-2 in their last 10 against Eastern Conference competition, and they are 18-8 overall against the East this season, which is the second-best mark of any team outside Utah. While they are just 1-4-1 ATS in their last six, they are 4-1 both straight up and ATS against the Knicks. They also sport a 10-4 mark on the second half of a back-to-back.
