Two storied programs are set to face off on Saturday as No. 1 Alabama visits Texas.

The Crimson Tide opening spread of 17.5 has stretched to 20 as Alabama looked like the best team in the country last weekend. Nick Saban’s company pitched a dominant shutout. Reigning Heisman trophy winner Bryce Young threw five first-half touchdowns to lead Alabama to a comfortable 55-0 victory.

Meanwhile, Texas began its march back to national relevance with a 52-10 slaughtering of the University of Louisiana-Monroe. Led by former Saban assistant Steve Sarkisian, the Longhorns are hoping to set the stage for their entrance to the SEC in 2024.

These two programs last matched up way back in the 2010 BCS National Title Game, with Mark Ingram leading the Crimson Tide to victory over the Colt McCoy-less Texas Longhorns.

This year’s battle of college football titans kicks off at 12:00 pm ET from Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on FOX.

For most of Alabama, Week 2 marks the actual start of the season as the Crimson Tide roll into Texas.

The Crimson Tide looked unstoppable in Week 1. Quarterback Bryce Young did everything he wanted and more on the football field against the Utah State Aggies. Marching his offense up and down the field against an overmatched opponent, Young threw five first-half touchdowns and ran for another.

The Heisman trophy winner was just having fun out there. Should Young be able to consistently play at that level this season, he’ll soon be adding to his trophy case. Young will have a battle on his hands all season, but he surely made a strong case to move up the Heisman Trophy odds in Week 1.

Much-hyped freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers made his Texas debut last week after beginning his career at Ohio State. He threw his first interception before his first career completion, but finished the game with a respectable 225 yards and two touchdowns. The Southlake, Texas native will be expected to perform in the biggest game of his life Saturday.

Thankfully, Ewers has help. Joining him in the Texas backfield is junior running back Bijan Robinson. A pre-season All-American, Robinson did not fail to disappoint in Week 1. Flashing his elite patience and vision, Robinson was elusive in the open field and showcased the skills that will make him a 1st-round NFL draft pick next April. Robinson will need to be at his very best this weekend for Texas to have any hope in pulling off what would be a monumental upset.

Alabama vs Texas Pick

As fate would have it, Nick Saban has lost two of his last three matchups against his former coordinators. That does not bode well for the Longhorns. Everybody in the national media will be hyping up this tug-of-war as the week progresses. Additionally, with the College Gameday backdrop, Saban will have his team motivated. He’ll want the Crimson Tide to lay on the gas and trample his former assistant.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian has Texas moving in the right direction, with legitimate talent all over the field. That being said, Alabama’s all-world pass rusher Will Anderson will be wreaking havoc on the Longhorns come Saturday. There are better ways to lose money this weekend than betting on Texas.
