Chanticleers Betting Analysis

The Chanticleers had an up-and-down season, finishing 5-3 in the Sun Belt Conference. They are coming off a 47-7 blowout loss to James Madison in their regular season finale. Prior to that, Coastal Carolina had won four straight games.

On offense, the Chanticleers are led by freshman quarterback Ethan Vasko, who took over midseason after Grayson McCall was injured. Vasko has thrown for 1,302 yards, six touchdowns, and five interceptions while completing 59.4% of his passes in seven games.

The running game is paced by Braydon Bennett, who has rushed for 245 yards and three scores. Wide receiver Sam Pinckney is the top receiving threat with 44 catches for 443 yards and three touchdowns.

Defensively, Coastal Carolina allows 24.7 points and 380 yards per game. Linebacker Juan Powell leads the team with 33 tackles. Safety Clayton Isbell has a team-high three interceptions. The Chanticleers have struggled against the run, allowing 168.5 rushing yards per contest.

Spartans Betting Analysis

San Jose State also finished the regular season at 7-5 overall and 6-2 in the Mountain West Conference. They closed out the year with a big 37-31 win over rivals UNLV. The Spartans have now won six straight games heading into bowl season.

Quarterback Chevan Cordeiro leads the San Jose State offense, throwing for 2,369 yards, 16 touchdowns, and four interceptions while completing 64.1% of his passes. Running back Kairee Robinson has rushed for a team-high 843 yards and six scores. Wideout Elijah Cooks paces the receiving corps with 45 catches for 729 yards and nine touchdowns.

The SJSU defense allows just 25.8 points per game, ranking 63rd nationally. Linebacker Bryun Parham has a team-leading 80 tackles, while defensive end Viliami Fehoko has 6.5 sacks. The secondary is led by safety Jay Lenard with three interceptions. The Spartans have been vulnerable against the run, giving up 183.8 yards per game on the ground.

Coastal Carolina vs San Jose State Prediction

While Coastal Carolina has shown flashes of strong play, San Jose State seems to be peaking at the right time. The Spartans have a significant edge at quarterback with Cordeiro and have been playing their best football down the stretch.

This game is taking place in Honolulu, and more than 100 of Cordeiro’s family and friends will be in attendance. We project he goes out with a bang facing a depleted Chanticleers secondary missing one of its leaders, senior JT Killen (65 tackles).

The Spartans have covered the spread in four of their past five games, while the Chanticleers are 1-4 ATS in that span. Look for San Jose State’s offense to overpower the Chanticleers’ defense en route to covering the 7.5-point spread.

  • Pick: San Jose State -7.5 (-110)
