In Week 3 of the college football season, the Colorado Buffalos (2-0) will head to Fort Collins to take on the Colorado State Rams (0-1). It has been a wild ride for Colorado in the past two weeks, as they have come out to a scorching 2-0 start to their season. Their win total heading into the year was an over/under of 3.5, with the under heavily juiced as the most likely outcome.

Now, they are the 18th-ranked team in the nation, and find themselves three-touchdown favorites against Colorado State, who had a bye last week but lost in a blowout in their first game of the season, 50-24 to Washington State.

Let’s analyze the Colorado vs Colorado State odds and offer our prediction for this Week 3 CFB game.

Colorado vs Colorado State Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Colorado Buffalos -23.5 -2000 O 59.5 (-110)
Colorado State Rams +23.5 +950 U 59.5 (-110)

The bookmakers project this game to be somewhat of a blowout, with Colorado being 23.5 point favorites, and their moneyline odds at -2000. This game will be played at Colorado State on Saturday, September 16th at 10 P.M. ET. ESPN will have the broadcast.

Colorado Stays Hot

It is truly astounding to think about where this Colorado team has come from since the pre-season. In their first game of the year, they headed to TCU to take on the National Championship runner-up from last season. Unsurprisingly, they were massive underdogs but they managed to win that game outright.

There was talk of that game being a fluke, as people weren’t sure if Colorado was the real deal or not after only one game. Well, they should have answered any of those questions with a blowout victory over a Nebraska team coached by Matt Rhule to the tune of 36-14.

It was another outstanding performance from Colorado starting QB Shedeur Sanders, who ended the day with 393 passing yards and 2 TDs against Nebraska. That brings his season totals to 903 passing yards and 6 total passing touchdowns. Unsurprisingly, his Heisman odds have been skyrocketing as well, now +3500 to win the Heisman. Far from the favorite, but also far from the +17500 odds he was to start the season.

Can Colorado State Keep it Close?

As 22.5-point underdogs, the bookmakers are not expecting Colorado State to put up much of a fight. This makes sense, as Colorado’s first two opponents were significantly better than this Colorado State team, and yet Colorado still sits at 2-0.

The biggest mystery with the Rams heading into this game is who their starting quarterback is going to be. Clay Millen was their starter in their Week 1 game against Washington State, but he left that game with an injury, and their offense actually started to perform better once backup Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi entered the game.

Fowler-Nicolosi went 13-20, with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. The guess here is that Fowler-Nicolosi will end up being the starter but that is an unknown. Whoever does start for the Rams will need to be prepared to put up a ton of points, as the Colorado State defense allowed 50 points and 556 yards in that game against Washington State.

Colorado vs Colorado State Prediction

As much as I want to keep riding with Colorado, the better play here is to target the total. In two games Colorado has scored 45 and 36 points, and that is against two defenses that are better than this Colorado State defense. The Rams allowed 50 points in their only other game this year, and a similar output should be expected from the Buffalos.

On the other side of the ball, Colorado State at least showed the ability to score points as well, and they figure to have more success on offense than Nebraska, whose QB Jeff Sims isn’t much of a thrower.

  • Pick: Over 59.5 Points (-110)
