After Acquiring Jalen Ramsey, Rams’ Super Bowl Odds Listed at +2000
- The Los Angeles Rams acquired All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey from the Jacksonville Jaguars on Tuesday
- The odds of LA winning the Super Bowl went from +2500 to +2000
- The defending NFC Champion Rams are 3-3 and third in the NFC West
Getting Jalen Ramsey has become what the Los Angeles Rams are all about.
You can tell it’s nearing the NFL trade deadine, because the Rams just acquired one of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ best defensive players.
Last season, when the Rams were rolling along unbeaten, they went out and got linebacker Dante Fowler Jr.
This season when the Rams are rolling in dog . . . well, you know . . . they get Ramsey.
The move impressed the sportsbooks but it would be wrong to suggest that it overwhelmed them. Sportsbooks shortened the Rams down to +2000 in the book’s Super Bowl odds.

Ramsey a Roll of The Dice
There were some puzzled looks earlier Tuesday when cornerback Marcus Peters was traded to the Baltimore Ravens. But those frowns turned upside down later in the day when word came that LA had acquired Ramsey, an All-Pro and two-time Pro Bowl selection, from the Jags.
But was he worth the price?

The Rams spent first-round draft picks in 2020 and 2021 as well as a 2021 fourth-rounder to get Ramsey. It means a team treading water at 3-3 and faced with depth issues won’t be picking in the opening round of the NFL Draft again until 2022.
LA looks great at the skill positions. But the Rams are sadly lacking along the offensive line and at linebacker.
The Rams haven’t made a first-round pick since getting quarterback Jared Goff in 2016.
Tying Up Money
They’ve already locked in long-term deals with Goff, running back Todd Gurley and defensive tackle Aaron Donald. Word is the Rams will do the same with the 24-year-old Ramsey.
Clearly Ramsey is a superstar, arguably the best cover corner in the NFL. But the fact of the matter is that both Goff, who’s been mediocre, and Gurley, hampered by a chronic knee issue, are looking like potential albatrosses.
Assuming they don't trade back in, the Jalen Ramsey deal means the Rams will go five years (2017-21) without a first-round pick.
2017: to Tennessee for Jared Goff
2018: to New England for Brandin Cooks
2019: to Atlanta in trade down
2020-21: to Jacksonville for Jalen Ramsey— Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) October 15, 2019
Trading away so many draft picks for stars, the Rams have gutted the depth on their roster. A team without quality backups will back up quickly down the standings ladder.
Rams Fighting History
NFC teams that lose in the Super Bowl don’t rebound well from the disappointment. In fact, just one NFC team has gone immediately back to the Super Bowl after losing in the big game during the previous season.

The Dallas Cowboys lost to the Colts in Super Bowl 5 and then beat the Dolphins in Super Bowl 6. Since then, losing NFC teams are 0-21 in their bids to play in consecutive Super Bowls.
NFC Teams Year After Losing the Super Bowl since 2012
Team | Super Bowl Loss | Following Season Record | Following Season Finish | Playoffs |
---|---|---|---|---|
San Francisco 49ers | Super Bowl 47 | 12-4 | 2nd NFC West | Wild Card |
Seattle Seahawks | Super Bowl 49 | 10-6 | 2nd NFC West | Wild Card |
Carolina Panthers | Super Bowl 50 | 6-10 | 4th NFC South | Did Not Qualify |
Atlanta Falcons | Super Bowl 51 | 10-6 | 3rd NFC South | Wild Card |
Los Angeles Rams | Super Bowl 53 | 3-3* | 3rd NFC West* | To Be Determined |
*Currently.
Trading for Ramsey would’ve made much more sense a year ago, when the Rams were legit Super Bowl contenders.
This year, they might be a wild card team but aren’t worthy of a Super Bowl wager.
