Two weeks ago, the Falcons (4-5, 1-3 away) and Panthers (2-7, 2-3 home) gave us one of the most memorable games of the season. The NFC South rivals played to a 37-34 overtime result, with Atlanta claiming victory by the skin of its teeth.
Despite all the excitement that game produced, we shouldn’t be expecting an encore performance in the rematch tonight on Thursday Night Football. For one, this game will be played outside in nasty weather, while their first meeting was in a dome.
Secondly, divisional rematches have a long track record of underwhelming in the boxscore, and given the lack of explosive passing potential from both teams, this contest is a prime candidate to fall short of the total as well.
As a result, we’re bearish on a high-scoring game and heavy passing volume. Our Falcons vs Panthers same-game parlay reflects that, and bettors are leaning heavily that way as well in the Falcons vs Panthers public betting splits.

Game Total Under 41.5 Points
Outdoor games on average produce four fewer points than contests played inside a dome. Games in a dome also outpace overs by more than twice as much as contests played outside. Not only is Carolina’s Bank of America Stadium outdoors, but Thursday’s weather looks nasty.
As of this afternoon there’s currently a wind advisory in Charlotte, NC, expecting gusts of up to 40 mph. Once the game kicks off those gusts should drop down to the 20 mph range, but in addition to the heavy winds, there’s also a 90% chance of rain.

Winds north of 15 mph have been proven to significantly affect both passing production and field goal-kicking efficiency, which in turn reduces scoring.
Atlanta and Carolina each rank bottom-eight in the NFL in total offense, and unfavorable weather conditions won’t fix that.
Dating back to the start of last season, unders in outdoor divisional games are 56-33 (63%), including 20-6 so far in 2022 (77%).
Drake London Under 39.5 Receiving Yards
Atlanta already ranks at the bottom of the league in terms of passing volume, and tonight’s forecast is only going to encourage them to run more. Marcus Mariota has completed fewer than 15 passes in six of nine starts, which has reduced rookie first-round receiver Drake London to a non-factor in most outings.
Drake London Stats – Last 6 Games
REC | YDS | TD |
---|---|---|
3 | 23 | 0 |
4 | 31 | 0 |
1 | 9 | 0 |
3 | 40 | 0 |
4 | 35 | 0 |
2 | 17 | 0 |
London has three or fewer catches in four of his past six games and has cleared 39.5 receiving yards just twice in that stretch. Carolina’s secondary is in fine health per the Falcons vs Panthers injury report, the same of which cannot be said for Atlanta’s.
That means London is set to see plenty of former first-round picks Jaycee Horn and CJ Henderson in coverage, as well as former second-rounder Donte Jackson. When they faced off just two weeks ago, London managed just 31 scoreless yards. He’s an easy fade in the Falcons vs Panthers player props.
D’Onta Foreman Over 49.5 Rushing Yards
Nasty weather breeds more rushing attempts, and we’re looking to capitalize on that. The Atlanta backfield is very crowded with three backs plus Mariota sharing carries. Carolina’s is much clearer.
D’Onta Foreman has taken control of the Panthers’ run game since Christian McCaffrey’s departure, rushing for over 100 yards in two of his past three games. Foreman tore up the Falcons run defense for 118 yards two weeks ago, scoring three times.
11 days ago, D'Onta Foreman scored 31.8 fantasy points against the Falcons.
He faces the Falcons again tonight – and the weather report's calling for a lot of rain.

Carolina ranks eighth in adjusted line yards and 12th in rushing power success rate. The Falcons meanwhile, enter play ranked 22nd against the run per DVOA. One of our experts is calling for a Carolina cover in the Falcons vs Panthers picks, and in order to pull that off their running game needs to flourish.
