  • The Cincinnati Bengals host the Cleveland Browns in an all-Ohio matchup in Week 9
  • Last week’s prop picks: 3-2. Overall: 15-15, +1.06 units

It’s been a rough week for the Ohio teams in the NFL.

The Cincinnati Bengals, after a dominating road win over the Ravens to move into the Super Bowl contender conversation, lost to Mike freaking White and the New York Jets.

And yet, wearing that for the last week was probably better than the dragged-out Odell Beckham Jr divorce from the Browns, who finally placed the mercurial receiver on waivers, after his talents could not be unlocked by offensive-minded guru Kevin Stefanski or QB Baker Mayfield.

Fitting then, that they clash in Week 9. After a personal bye for me, it’s a chance to pick up some steam after a winning previous week.

You can get set for the game with odds here. For us, let’s list our favorite prop bets this week. Let’s go!

Joe Burrow TD Passes

The Browns have one of the higher-regarded defenses in the NFL, raking seventh in total yards and passing yards per game. But they do rank 13th in points allowed, which indicates there are opportunities to put points up on them. Sure enough, elite quarterbacks haven’t had much of an issue puncturing their defense.

Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert and Kyler Murray have been business as usual when facing the Browns, each throwing for at least three TD passes in their games. The rest of the lesser-QBs have been less effective, as the Steelers, Broncos, Vikings, Bears and Texans have thrown two or fewer TD passes against them.

Enter Joe Burrow, who is knocking on the door of that elite class, and some would argue he might already be there.  the second-year pivot is third in the NFL in TD passes with 20, and has gone three straight games with three TD passes. He’s crossed the total four times over the season, and has at least two TD passes in every game.

Pick:

  • Burrow OVER 2.5 TD passes (1 unit to win 1.6 units)

Baker Mayfield Passing Yards

Has anyone had it tougher this week than Baker Mayfield? He’s having a so-so season in the pass-happy NFL, with 1,699 yards passing (25th) while throwing just six TD passes (29th) and a microscopic QB rating of 42.2 (27th), and then had to take attacks from OBJ’s dad and media for not being able to get Odell the dam ball.

That cloud has lifted, and perhaps the stress of not having to seek out the star receiver allows Mayfield to just sling it across the field.

He’ll have an opportunity against a Bengals defense that is 23rd in passing yards allowed at 266.9 a contest. Mayfield has crossed this passing yards total three straight games, and he’s poised to make it four. He’s also recorded at least 258 passing yards in seven of Cleveland’s last eight regular season road games.

And let’s take a double-dip here: Mayfield has also thrown three or more TD’s in each of the Browns’ last three road games against the Bengals. With plus-odds on that, why not?

Picks:

  • Mayfield OVER 222.5 passing yards (0.5 units to win 0.435 units)
  • Mayfield OVER 1.5 TD passes (1 unit to win 1.25 units)

Who Scores?

Bengals’ wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase is the current favorite for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, and he’s failed to find paydirt just twice in eight games this year.

If it feels like Nick Chubb is always in the end zone, it’s because he kind of is. Chubb has scored at least one major un 10 of his last 11 games against AFC opponents.

If you’re looking for just a little more value, consider that Browns’ receiver Jarvis Landry has scored a major in each of his last six road appearances.

And feeling a little friskier? D’Ernest Johnson has scored the first TD in each of Cleveland’s last two games. With Kareem Hunt still out at least one more game, does the backup to the star backfield do it again?

Picks:

  • Landry to score anytime TD (1 unit to win 1.9 units)
  • Johnson to score first TD (0.5 units to win 11.5 units)
