  • Josh Rosen had 11 TD and 14 INT for the Arizona Cardinals in his rookie season
  • The Washington Redskins lost starting QB Alex Smith to a gruesome injury in 2018
  • The Oakland Raiders could be interested and own three 1st round picks in the 2019 NFL draft

Rumors continue to swirl that the Arizona Cardinals intend to draft Kyler Murray with the #1 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and what would of course make current starter Josh Rosen expendable.

Rosen was selected with the 10th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and could provide great value to another franchise, considering his price tag won’t be nearly as high.

Odds What Team Josh Rosen Plays For In 2019

Josh Rosen Game 1 2019 Regular Season (If Traded) Odds
Washington Redskins +300
Miami Dolphins +500
New England Patriots +600
New York Giants +700
San Diego Chargers +750
Oakland Raiders +900
Cincinnati Bengals +1200
New Orleans Saints +1200
Denver Broncos +1200
Pittsburgh Steelers +1400

Odds taken 3/5.

There are a lot of interesting choices on this list and a few of them provide great value.

These numbers will move quickly once reports surface, so the wise bet is settling on an opinion early to try and get the best price. For my money, here are three teams I’d keep an eye on.

Could Rosen Replace Alex Smith?

Alex Smith suffered one of the most gruesome injuries in recent memory last year and will be unavailable in 2019 and possibly beyond.

With Colt McCoy currently holding down the starting quarterback spot in Washington, it’s definitely reasonable for them to top this list.

Everyone seems to be saying the right things about McCoy, but there’s little belief in NFL circles he’s a long term solution for the Redskins. Rosen, on the other hand, is a top 10 talent who could be groomed as the next Redskins star for years to come.

Rosen only completed 55.2% of passes in his rookie season but that was largely because of a terrible offensive line.

The fact he had 11 touchdown passes and 14 interceptions doesn’t look great, but when considering the lack of talent around him, it isn’t actually that bad.

The Cardinals thought so much of the coaching job done by Steve Wilks he was fired after just one season. Rosen’s potential is similar to that of Jared Goff, who struggled early in his career before Sean McVay came along.

Could Jay Gruden see himself as the man to get the best out of Rosen?

Could Belichick Trade For Brady’s Successor?

As much as the evidence continues to prove otherwise, at some point Tom Brady’s skills will diminish and it will be time to move on.

If Bill Belichick can land Brady’s successor at a cost much lower than the 10th overall pick Arizona used on him last year, he’d likely be interested.

In addition to some on-field things that need to be cleaned up, there are character questions revolving around Rosen. But is there a better coach better suited to handle those concerns than Belichick?

And how about Tom Brady as a mentor? That seems like it could be something that channels Rosen’s focus and turns him into something similar to the dominant QB from UCLA.

Will Jon Gruden Make Another Splash?

The logic for why Jay Gruden would want Rosen in Washington is easy to follow. Why his brother, Jon, would want to replace Derek Carr with Rosen is a little tougher to justify.

But then again, is it easy to justify anything he’s done since taking over in Oakland?

Gruden can be as interested in Kyler Murray as he wants, that’s not going to happen. But if he’s showing interest in other QBs, it means he must be okay with the thought of life after Derek Carr.

The Raiders have the draft capital to dwarf other team’s offers, considering they have three first-round picks at their disposal. If he considers himself a QB whisperer, it could happen, and +900 is certainly an attractive price to bet on the Raiders doing something sure to create headlines.
