Chicago Very Thin In Secondary

The situation in the Bears secondary is probably similar to the scenario of trying to sell Bears tickets in the secondary market. It’s not good.

Two starters – FS Eddie Jones (foot) and LCB Jaylon Johnson (hamstring) – are definitely out. Meanwhile, starting SS Jaquan Brisker is questionable because of a hamstring ailment.

Chicago Bears Injury Report

Player-Position Injury Game Status
Chase Claypool-WR Personal Out
Eddie Jackson-S Foot Out
Jaquan Brisker-S Hamstring Questionable
Jaylon Johnson-CB Hamstring Out
Teven Jenkins-G Calf Out (IR)
Josh Blackwell-CB Hamstring Out (IR)
Khalid Kareem-DE Hip Out (IR)
Braxton Jones-T Neck Out (IR)
Kyler Gordon-CB Hand Out (IR)

There’s also the ongoing issue of WR Chase Claypool. He’ll be missing due to personal reasons. For the second straight game, he’s been told to stay home.

Claypool was benched after making comments critical of how the team has been utilizing him since he was acquired last season in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Healthy Commanders Facing Wounded Bears

There was really nothing but good news for the Commanders on the injury front in preparation for this game. WR Curtis Samuel (quadricep) was cleared from any injury designation. He’d been showing as probable earlier in the week.

Washington Commanders Injury Report

Player-Position Injury Game Status
David Bada-DE Triceps Out (IR)
Dax Milne-WR Groin Out (IR)
Chris Rodriguez-RB Illness Questionable
Shaka Toney-DE Suspension Out
Drew White-LB Knee Out (PUP)

CB Christian Holmes (back), who’d also been listed as probable at the outset of the week, was also removed from the team’s injury report. Only third-string RB Chris Rodriguez is uncertain to play. He’s questionable due to illness.

How Could Injuries Affect Bears vs Commanders Betting Lines?

Washington QB Sam Howell has gone over 200 yards passing in three of the last four games and over 290 yards through the air in two of the last three games. Considering the state of the Chicago secondary, you have to be liking the over on Howell’s passing yardage of 243.5 in the Bears vs Commanders player props.

The latest addition to the Chicago injury list, Brisker hurt his hamstring in practice this week. The Bears are calling it a tweak, but Brisker has been limited in practice. If Brisker can’t go, rookie Tyrique Stevenson would be the only starter left in the Chicago secondary.

Jackson will be missing his third successive game. He was hurt early in Chicago’s Week 2 loss at Tampa Bay. Johnson is going to miss his second straight game. Elijah Hicks starts for Jackson, while Terell Smith slides in for Johnson.

Adding to the DB woes of the Bears is that they’re already without starting slot CB Kyler Gordon, who’s on IR with a hand injury. This week, backup CB Josh Blackwell (hamstring) was also placed on IR. Safety Duron Harmon was signed from the practice squad of the Baltimore Ravens.

On a more positive note, Chicago LG Teven Jenkins (calf) was able to be a full participant in practice this week. He may be activated and could start this game.
