With a berth in the NFC Championship game on the line, a matchup between the Cowboys and 49ers promises plenty of intrigue,

If the Cowboys pull off a second road win, then the Dak Prescott ascension continues. He would be even closer to justifying his four-year, $160 million contract. Prescott would also be the first QB to lead Dallas to an NFC Championship Game since Troy Aikman in 1995.

But if San Francisco is able to down the Cowboys? It would be Brock Purdy’s ninth-straight win and the latest chapter in his Cinderella story. Purdy would also be just the fifth rookie QB to ever reach a Conference Championship game.

One way or another, we’ll figure out who’s headed to the NFC Championship Game. Kickoff is set for 6:30 pm ET from Levi’s Stadium.

Cowboys vs 49ers Odds

Team Moneyline Spread Total

San Francisco 49ers -190 -4.0 (-110) Un 46.5 (-110)

Odds as of January 21st from Caesars Sportsbook

Dallas was a road favorite last week and the books nailed it as they easily dismissed Tampa. The 49ers enter the Divisional Round as the favorite now, on the strength of home field advantage and the magic of their rookie signal caller.

Is a 46.5 total low? NFL Public Betting trends seem to think so. As of Friday night, an amazing 90% of the money and 82% of bets were coming in on the over. The public likes Dallas to cover, backing them with both the bets and money. But winning? 65% of the money and 77% of the bets are backing the 49ers.

Cowboys vs 49ers Injury Report

Dallas goes into Sunday with a relatively clean bill of health.

Just one player was declared out for Sunday, and that’s Tackle Jason Peters. Safety Jayron Kearse is questionable due to a knee injury.

Divisional Round Injury Report

Cowboys Injury, Status 49ers Injury, Status
Jayron Kearse, S Knee, Questionable Jimmy Garoppolo, QB Foot, OUT
Jason Peters, T Hip, OUT Ambry Thomas, CB Ankle, OUT

Trent Williams, Samson Ebukam, Jauan Jennings and Javon Kinlaw all popped up on San Fran’s injury report this week. Williams received a rest day on Wednesday, while the other three were limited during the week’s first two sessions.

All four were full participants on Friday.

Can Dak Prescott Do It Again?

For Dak Prescott, he’s hoping that Cowboys fans remember him for what happens in the 2022 Playoffs. Not the regular season.

Prescott, somewhat infamously, tied for the league lead in interceptions despite playing in just 12 games. He also finished with his lowest yards-per-attempt, yards-per-game and QB rating since 2017.

There were only three games were he finished with more than 280 yards.

But on Monday night against the Buccaneers? Prescott was locked in. He completed 75% of his passes for 305 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran one in on the ground for just the second time this season.

Prescott has only played the 49ers twice in his career, and he hasn’t faced them since 2017. He’s thrown five touchdowns and no picks, and averages 239.5 yards-per-game.

49ers Playmakers Must Step Up Again

Yes Brock Purdy threw for 332 yards and three touchdowns against the Seahawks. But it was Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel who really led the way.

CMC racked up 115 yards on just 15 carries, while Samuel logged 32 yards on three of his own. Through the air, Samuel hauled in six catches for 133 yards, while McCaffrey caught two for 17 yards.

Both pulled down TDs.

McCaffrey and Samuel could find room to run against the Cowboys defense. Dallas let Rachaad White go for 5.9 yards-per-carry, and gave up five receptions for 42 yards to Tampa’s running backs.

Chris Godwin (10 catches, 85 yards) also found room to operate in the Wild Card Round. If Dallas does slow down Samuel and McCaffery, there’s a chance Brandon Aiyuk could pop off.

Cowboys vs 49ers Pick

Despite his production to this point, it’s fair to call Brock Purdy the wild card in this matchup. But he showed poise against the Seahawks, and Kyle Shanahan was able to exploit some soft spots.

Dak’s performance against the 49ers’ defense is the key here. Stout all season long, if they can get to the quarterback and force some turnovers like they did in the Wild Card round, it’ll be easy pickings.

Prescott played a clean game against the Bucs. But against a defense like this, he’ll have to earn every yard.

The Pick: San Francisco 49ers (-190); 1 unit
