  • This is a rematch of last year’s AFC Divisional Playoff where the Chiefs defeated the Jags, 27-20

Could Patrick Mahomes and the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs (0-1, 0-1 ATS) possibly begin the season with two losses? One team that sure hopes so is the Jacksonville Jaguars, (1-0, 1-0 ATS) who will be looking for revenge after falling at the hands of the Chiefs in the AFC Divisional Round last year. Read on for Chiefs vs Jaguars prediction for Week 2.

It’s expected to be a hot, wet and sticky one at EverBank Stadium in Florida, with temperatures around the mid-80s, humidity around 67%, and a 70% chance of rain. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm ET with CBS providing the broadcast coverage.

Buoyed by the return of Chris Jones from his contract holdout and Travis Kelce from a knee injury, the Chiefs should be pumped up for this one. No other game in the NFL odds has a higher over/under total than the 51 pegged for this game. Read on below for more Chiefs vs Jaguars odds as well as our picks.

Chiefs vs Jaguars Odds

Team Moneyline Spread Total
Kansas City Chiefs -180 -3.5 (-105) Over 51 (-110)
Jacksonville Jaguars +160 +3.5 (-115) Under 51 (-110)

Oddsmakers can’t see the champs falling to 0-2 and have the Chiefs set as 3.5-point favorites when they hook up with the Jaguars on Sunday. However, our SBD score predictor is calling for Jacksonville to beat the Chiefs by a score of 29–18.

Odds as of September 15th at Bet365.

For the last time the Jaguars defeated Kansas City you have to go back to 2009, and they’ve played seven times since then. Dating back to last season, the Jags are 7-1 in their last eight against the spread.

Big Help on the Way for the Chiefs

Other than Patrick Mahomes, you could argue that the Chiefs’ two most important players are Kelce and Jones and after both missed Week 1, they will be on the field for Sunday’s matchup against the Jaguars, even though Kelce took Friday’s practice to have some fun at the expense of the reporters covering the team.

Although he wasn’t saying anything, perhaps nobody will be more excited for the return of Kelce than his tag team partner Mahomes. The quarterback threw for just 226 yards, completing only 53.8% of his passes, but that was greatly due to a case of the dropsies from a bunch of his receivers, particularly, Kadarius Toney. Prop bettors will also rejoice as they can target Kelce in the Chiefs vs Jaguars props.

On top of getting their entertaining tight end back, they also get the leader of their defense, Jones ready to run wild. With him on the field, they were the number one team in the league in QB pressure percentage last year, while they were 28th when he was on the sidelines. His impact cannot be measured.

With two key contributors back, the NFL public betting trends see 84% of bettors taking the Chiefs to win straight up, although it’s basically 50/50 when choosing which team will cover.

Bounce Back or Revenge Game

The Chiefs need a bounce back, but the Jaguars most definitely will have memories of their 27-20 playoff loss to Kansas City in their minds for this one. Another Kansas City loss and you can be sure their Super Bowl odds will lengthen immensely.

Jacksonville has won seven straight at home and took their season opener, 31-21 over the host Indianapolis Colts last week.

Despite some expected rain, these are two of the top QB’s in the league, so points will be scored in this one. Kansas City put up just 20 points in their opener. They only scored 20 or less points three times in 20 games including the playoffs last year and averaged 33.7 points in the following outings.

Chiefs vs Jaguars Prediction

No team utilizes their tight ends better than the Chiefs and their pivot, Showtime Mahomes. Of course, it’s easy to utilize a player there when you’ve got one of the best to ever play the position. The Jags are in the bottom third of the league when it comes to success covering tight ends. Kansas City was also a perfect 3-0 following a loss last year.

When it comes to laying the points, 3.5 might be one point too many which is why bettors are so split when wagering ATS for this one. Our favorite bet here is to count on Mahomes to come out firing, while Trevor Lawrence looks to match him score for score.

These were two of the top four offenses in the AFC last season when it comes to points scored, and with Mahomes’ favorite weapon back, we suggest you lay some cash on a lot of touchdowns in this one.
