By Robert Duff in NFL Football
- The Philadelphia Eagles are 7-point home favorites over the Minnesota Vikings in the Week 2 NFL TNF game on Thursday, September 14
- Minnesota is 1-3 straight up and against the spread in the club’s last four games at Philadelphia
- The Eagles are 5-1 SU and 4-2 ATS in their last six home games
If you believe in omens and you’re from Philly, then you instantly recognize how vital it is for the Philadelphia Eagles (1-0, 1-0 ATS) to put a whipping on the Minnesota Vikings (0-1, 0-1 ATS) in the Week 2 NFL TNF game. The oddsmakers are expecting they will as Philly are favored in the Vikings vs Eagles odds.
Last season, also in Week 2, the Eagles handled the Vikings 24-7 at home and went on to play in the Super Bowl. In the 2018 NFC Championship, the hometown Eagles blasted Minnesota 38-7. Two weeks later, they won the Super Bowl.
Anyone else noticing a trend here? Oddsmakers certainly do and they’re down for some more Philadelphia dominance. It’s the Eagles who are set as 7-point favorites in this game.
Let’s look deeper into the Vikings vs Eagles odds where the Vikings are road underdogs and offer you our prediction for this NFL Week 2 showdown.

Vikings vs Eagles Injury Report
There’s worries along the Minnesota offensive line, where both C Garrett Bradbury (back) and LT Christian Darrisaw (ankle) are listing as questionable. On defense, OLB Marcus Davenport (ankle) is also questionable. He missed the loss to the Buccaneers.
For Philadelphia, three defensive starters – RDT Fletcher Cox (ribs), LCB James Bradberry (concussion) and FS Reed Blankenship (ribs) – are questionable. Blankenship made 12 tackles in the win over the Patriots. LB Nakobe Dean (foot) was placed on IR. Also questionable is RB Kenneth Gainwell (ribs).
Analyzing the Cousins Prime Time Narrative
You’ve heard it many times before. There are three givens in life – death, taxes and Vikings QB Kirk Cousins losing in prime time games. Well, as the late, great Meat Loaf once warbled, two out of three ain’t bad.
Pre-Minnesota Kirk certainly wasn’t a prime-time player. Cousins was 4-7 ATS as QB1 for Washington when playing under the bright lights of nighttime football. However, he’s turned over a new leaf since coming to Minnesota – and no, we don’t mean Ryan Leaf.

With the Vikings, Cousins is 7-9 SU and 8-8 ATS in prime time games. On TNF, he’s 4-5 ATS. He’s 3-0 SU on TNF since 2019.
Eagles Sputtering On Offense
In their first regular season game of the post-Miles Sanders era, there was little cause for excitement from the Philadelphia offense. Playing his initial game with the Eagles, former Detroit RB D’Andre Swift carried once for three yards and caught one pass for two yards. TE Dallas Goedert didn’t catch a pass for the first time since Week 3 of the 2019 season.

RB Rashaad Penny, another offseason addition, wasn’t even active for the game. Philadelphia was a dismal 4-for-19 on third-down conversions. Eagles QB Jalen Hurts threw for over 300 yards and ran for two TDs in last season’s win over Minnesota. He’ll need to step up like that again if the Eagles are to take this game.
Minnesota vs Philadelphia Prediction
The Eagles gave up 306 passing yards to Mac Jones and the Patriots in an unimpressive performance at New England. Imagine how much a quality QB like Cousins could be torching them. He’s 6-4 SU all-time against Philadelphia.
It was mistakes that buried the Vikings against Tampa Bay. They turned the ball over three times while outgunning the Buccaneers 286-97. Count on Minnesota cleaning up the miscues and take the seven points in the Vikings vs Eagles odds.
Vikings vs Eagles Picks: Vikings +7 (-110)
TNF Record: 1-0-0
