Heading into the NFL season, Pittsburgh Steelers first-round pick Kenny Pickett was the favorite to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. After the Steelers’ thrilling overtime victory over the Bengals, the rookie QB no longer has the shortest odds, with teammate Mitch Trubisky quarterbacking the squad. Washington Commanders wideout Jahan Dotson quickly has shot up the board with his 40-yard, two TD performance against the Jaguars.

In the latest NFL OROY odds, Dotson and George Pickens (who had just one catch for three yards for Pittsburgh) have the shortest +900 odds to claim the prestigious award. Fellow receivers Drake London (Falcons) and Chris Olave (Saints), who were both first-round picks, are joined by Texans RB Dameon Pierce in the top five.

There are some lesser-known names to consider that are currently longshots now, such as Titans WR Kyle Philips, who is +10000 yet was the most targeted rookie wideout in Week 1 (six catches on nine targets for 66 yards). Chiefs seventh-round running back Isiah Pacheco turned heads, with twelve carries for 62 yards and a touchdown (+2000).
Breece Hall was the first running back off the board in the draft, yet played second fiddle to Michael Carter for the Jets, rushing for 23 yards on six carries. He, along with Texans RB Dameon Pierce entered the season as top-five choices to win OROY, but like Hall, Pierce was ineffective in Week 1 (11 rushes for 33 yards).
OROY Co-Favorites With Polar Opposite First Games
It’s not as if Commanders wide receiver Jahan Dotson came out of nowhere, as he was the 16th overall selection in the last draft, as the fifth wideout off the board. Heading into the campaign, he was something of a longshot (+2250) to win the award, given the uncertainty over new starter Carson Wentz’s game. With his two TD performance, however, he quickly is on oddsmakers’ radars.

Steelers second-round pick George Pickens pales in comparison, despite being a contender at +1000 odds heading into the year, given the Steelers’ remarkable track record of developing receivers. He caught just one pass on Sunday for three yards, yet he still sees his odds around the same mark.

The Steelers upset their hated division rival Bengals on Sunday in an OT thriller, meaning the only QB selected in the first round (Kenny Pickett), might be further off starting than potentially expected, with Mitch Trubisky doing just enough to lead the Steel city to victory.

First Round Receivers Impress in Week 1
The Atlanta Falcons made Drake London the first WR taken off the board in the draft, nabbing him with the eighth selection. He did not disappoint in his debut, snagging five balls on seven targets for 74 yards. With the Falcons expected to struggle some this year, he surely will get a lot of opportunities to catch passes with the team playing catchup each contest.

In that same game as London was Saints Chris Olave, who was taken three picks after him. He had three catches for 41 yards as New Orleans mounted a fourth quarter comeback. His QB Jameis Winston is a known gunslinger, so he too should have plenty of opportunities to rack up the yardage.
He’ll be aided by returning teammate Michael Thomas garnering a lot of attention across from him, as Thomas caught two TDs following a year off due to injury, making Olave an intriguing pick.
Pick: Chris Olave (+1000)
