Week 4 on the NFL calendar wraps up with a rematch of the 2021 NFC Championship Game on Monday Night Football. The reigning Super Bowl champion Rams (2-1, 1-0 away) travel to San Francisco to face the 49ers (1-2, 1-0 home).
These two arch rivals squared off three times last season, with San Francisco covering in each matchup. Bettors don’t seem too concerned with past history however, as LA is drawing the majority of the action in the NFL public betting trends as short road underdogs.

Rams vs 49ers ATS Betting Splits
74% of the spread wagers are currently backing the Rams, but those bets make up only 61% of the ATS handle. That’s a clear indication that the big money players are on the other side, which will give us a classic sharps versus squares scenario.
That was the case last night when the public was all over the Chiefs, yet the line moved from KC -2 to begin the week, to Tampa Bay -2 by kickoff.
Tonight’s MNF spread opened up at San Francisco -1, but has moved half a point in their favor at most online sportsbooks, and a full point at some of the most prominent books in Vegas.

Both the Rams and Niners are 1-2 against the spread this season, while Los Angeles is just 9-11 ATS during the regular season since Matthew Stafford took control of the offense. Stafford threw six picks last year against the 49ers, putting over 0.5 interceptions in the Rams vs 49ers player props squarely in play tonight.

When it comes to the total, bettors are once again throwing out past history between these two squads. Two of last year’s three meetings produced 41 points or less, and the only contest that exceeded 42 points needed overtime to do so.

One explanation to explain the line move is the health of the LA offensive line. As noted in the Rams vs 49ers injury report, that unit is extremely banged up. That doesn’t bode well for their offensive ceiling given the strength of San Francisco’s defense. The Niners grade out as the third best defense per DVOA, and generate the most pressure on opposing QB’s in the NFL.
Rams vs 49ers Moneyline Splits
The moneyline splits are even more extreme in LA’s favor than the spread splits. 82% of the straight up wagers are backing the Rams, but those tickets only account for 68% of the moneyline handle. That indicates the 18% of moneyline bets on San Fran are likely a result of sharp action, as they account for 32% of the moneyline handle.
If LA is going to pull off the upset, as predicted in the Rams vs 49ers picks, they’ll have to weather an early storm. Last season, the Niners raced out to a 31-7 lead at home, before cruising to a 21-point victory.
