  • The Los Angeles Rams are hurting along the offensive line
  • Their MNF opponents the San Francisco 49ers are ailing on the interior defensive front
  • The impact of the Rams vs 49ers injury report and inactives on Monday Night Football is assessed in the following story

The Los Angeles Rams (2-1, 1-2 ATS) and San Francisco 49ers (1-2, 1-2 ATS) always draw a line in the sand when these two age-old NFC West rivals clash.

However, this time around, who is drawing in along the respective lines may go a long way toward determining which team is smiling at the end of their MNF battle.

The Rams are missing two starters from their offensive line. Chances that the 49ers can take advantage of these absences may be hindered by the fact that both of San Francisco’s starting defensive tackles are questionable.

The 2-1 Rams and the 1-2 49ers played three times last season, with San Francisco winning twice, but LA taking the NFC Championship Game. The 49ers are listed as 2-point home favorites in this game.

Los Angeles Rams Injury Report

In the NFL public betting splits, it’s the Rams who are drawing the majority of action in both the spread and moneyline handle and bets. This even though the 49ers won both regular-season meetings in 2021.

How well they are able to block could be the key to proving the public is right on this call. The Rams are enduring a world of hurt along their offensive front.

Starting center Bryan Allen (knee) was injured in the season-opening loss to the Buffalo Bills and remains on the sideline. This week, starting left guard David Edwards is also out with a concussion.

With two offensive linemen out for the game, perhaps look elsewhere than Rams running back Cam Akers in the Rams vs 49ers player props.

Starting left cornerback David Long Jr (groin) is also out for the MNF game. Grant Haley and Robert Rochell both figure to get time on the field as Long’s replacement.

San Francisco 49ers Injury Report

San Francisco LDT Javon Kinlaw is being bothered by a flare up in his surgically-repaired knee. It could explain why he’s not been as effective a performer this season. The former first-round draft pick is showing just two tackles and no sacks on his stats sheet for 2022.

Kinlaw played 57% of the defensive snaps in last week’s 11-10 SNF loss to the Denver Broncos. That was up from the 43% he played in Week 2 against Seattle, so he is trending in the right direction.

Meanwhile, RDT Arik Armstead is dealing with a foot ailment. He’s made just three tackles in two games and one tackle for loss. Armstead was inactive for last week’s loss to the Broncos.

There’s only one absence on offense for the 49ers, but it’s huge one – both literally and figuratively. All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams suffered a high ankle sprain against Denver. The nine-time Pro Bowl player will be out 4-6 weeks. Third-year pro Colton McKivitz will be making the fifth start of his NFL career in place of Williams. McKivitz has played 13 offensive snaps through three games this season, or 7% of all of San Francisco’s offensive plays.

How Could Injuries Affect Rams vs 49ers Betting Lines?

The Rams are continuing to play musical chairs along their offensive line. Starting right guard Coleman Shelton shifted to center to replace the injured Allen. However, Logan Bruss, who stepped into Shelton’s spot, was lost for the season with a knee injury.

Tremayne Anchrum Jr was next man up at right guard. At least he was, until he was felled by a season-ending lower-leg injury. Fourth-year pro Bobby Evans is expecting to get the start at right guard. He’s made one start since 2019 and has played just six offensive snaps so far this season.

In assessing the Rams vs 49ers picks, a key element in the game is the ferocious pass rush that San Francisco can unleash. Nick Bosa is as dangerous an edge rusher as there is in the NFL. However, how much will his work be subsided should Kinlaw and Armstead not be operating at 100% effectiveness? Both missed practice time this week. However, 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans is insisting each will be playing Monday night.

If either player is lost or slowed, San Francisco is seriously lacking in depth at DT. Kalia Davis is on the reserve/non-football injury list and out for the game. Maurice Hurst (biceps) is on IR.
