  • The San Francisco 49ers are 1.5-point road favorites in LA against the Rams
  • Both the LA and San Francisco are looking up at the Seahawks in the NFC West standings

After snapping a 2-game skid and a coming off a bye week, the Los Angeles Rams are hoping to finally strike back against their divisional foes.

The San Francisco 49ers are coming off a two straight losses themselves. They’re hoping it’s much the same as a Week 4 whipping they doled out in the last matchup.

With LA and San Fran both looking up at the surprising Seahawks in the NFC West, one team will shoot back into the division chase, leaving the other scrambling and under .500.

It all gets underway Sunday (October 30) from SoFi Stadium at 4:25pm ET, in a game that can be seen live on FOX.

49ers vs Rams Odds

Team Moneyline Spread Total
San Francisco 49ers -122 -1.5 (-110) Ov 42.5 (-110)
Los Angeles Rams +102 +1.5 (-110) Un 42.5 (-110)

Odds as of October 29th from Barstool Sporstbook

How dominant has ‘Frisco been in this head-to-head? Consider they’re coming off a pair of double-digit losses, and they’re still 1.5-point road favorites, with a total set at 42.5.

The NFL Betting Trends are also skewing 49ers, with 74% of the bets against the spread for the visitors. Sixty-one percent are betting on a San Francisco win on the moneyline.

San Francisco Betting Outlook

If only Jimmy Garoppolo could play the Rams every week. In his last five games against LA, he’s completing 65% of his passes, throwing for 1,237 yards, with nine TD’s against just three interceptions and a 106.1 passer rating.

Jimmy G hasn’t been great in the last two Niner losses. He tossed an ugly goal line pick in a 44-23 loss to the 49ers, while throwing a pair of picks in a 28-14 loss to Atlanta.

The 49ers will likely call upon Christian McCaffrey a lot Sunday, as he’s had a full week of practice to integrate into Kyle Shanahan’s offense. He should see a full workload after seeing just 28% of the offensive  snaps in his debut against KC.

Run CMC has already shown LA the damage he can do. In LA’s win over the Panthers, McCaffrey carried the ball 13 times for 69 yards, and added seven grabs for 89 yards.

Part of his usage comes out of necessity too, as stud receiver Deebo Samuel (hamstring) has been ruled out. Other notables sidelined include FB Kyle Juszcyzyk (finger) and defensive lineman Arik Armstead (foot/ankle).

Los Angeles Betting Outlook

The Rams are quite literally nowhere near the offensive juggernaut they were as they marched to a title a year ago.

There’s blame to go around everywhere.

Start with Matthew Stafford, who enters Sunday with more interceptions (8) than touchdown passes. Part of that is owed to the fact LA’s offensive line can’t protect him. They’ve allowed 22 sacks through six games — after allowing 22 all of last regular season.

There’s also that inept run game, with Darrell Henderson and Cam Akers are each being held to a whopping 30.2 yards rushing per game. As a team, the Rams are averaging 3.4 rush yards per contest. No back has yet to break a 20+ yard run this season.

Some good news on the health front, though. Center Brian Allen, who’s been out since Week 1 with knee surgery, should be back Sunday to help stabilize a line that struggles against elite pressure defense. Nineteen of LA’s 22 sacks allowed have come in losses to Buffalo, Dallas and San Francisco.

Van Jefferson is back after offseason knee surgery, and the Rams desperately need playmakers other than Cooper Kupp. With Allen Robinson III struggling in his maiden season, Jefferson could help LA fill the void of pass catchers Odell Beckham (free agent) and Robert Woods (traded).

49ers vs Rams Pick

Can LA keep Stafford upright? In the Niners’ 24-9 win in Week 4, Stafford was pressured a whopping 28 times, and nearly 50% of his drop backs had him in instant scramble mode. Nick Bosa was a wrecking ball, accounting for 14 pressures on his own.

Stafford  was sacked seven times, and threw a backbreaking pick-6 to put the game on ice. He’s lost 11 straight games when he’s ben sacked five or more times, including an 0-3 mark this season.

The Niners have won seven of the past eight meetings overall, with LA’s only win in the NFC Title tilt a year ago. San Fran is a perfect 6-0 against the spread in the last six head-to-head matchups.

At some point, this dominant bubble will burst. It just won’t be this week.

The Pick:

  • 49ers -1.5 (-110); 1 unit to win 0.91 units
  • Overall: 6-5 ATS, 1-0 O/U, -2.06 units
