Spread in Saints vs Titans Week 16 Matchup Opens at New Orleans -3
- The New Orleans Saints are three-point road favorites at the Tennessee Titans
- New Orleans has already clinched the NFC South title but can capture home-field advantage in the NFC
- Tennessee maintains a slim hope of winning the AFC South Division
Will the New Orleans Saints go marching on and keep their NFC home-field advantage dreams alive? Or are the Tennessee Titans going to be more prudent in defending their house than they were a week ago against the Houston Texans?
New Orleans is already NFC South champs for the third year in a row but still have much to play for with two weeks remaining in the NFL regular season. The 11-3 Saints are still in the hunt for the NFC’s #1 seed along with the 11-3 Seattle Seahawks and the 11-3 San Francisco 49ers.
The Saints were the NFC’s top seed last season.
Last week at home, the 8-6 Titans faced the Texans will first place in the AFC South on the line and lost 24-21. The setback leaves them with slim hopes of making the playoffs, and an even slimmer chance of capturing the division crown.
In either scenario, Tennessee basically must win out and hope for help but the sportsbooks don’t favor the chances of the Titans doing so. The Saints are three-point road favorites in this game.

Saints Persevere
Injuries are a fact of life in football but the bumps of a bruising NFL campaign haven’t slowed down the Saints at all. In Monday’s 34-7 rout of the Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans played without defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins and defensive end Marcus Davenport.
Early in the season, the Saints lost quarterback Drew Brees to thumb surgery. They went 5-0 with backup Teddy Bridgewater under center. Monday, Brees shattered Peyton Manning’s NFL career mark for touchdown passes.

Other players who’ve missed time through injury this season include running back Alvin Kamara, cornerback Marshon Lattimore, tight end Jared Cook, tackle Terron Armstead, guard Andrus Peat and kick returner Deonte Harris. Rankins also was out the first three games of the season while recovering from offseason surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon.

Titans In Tough
To make the playoffs as AFC South champs, the Titans must beat the Saints and then win at Houston, while hoping the Texans also lose on Saturday to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
In this, the 2019-20 NFL season, it would be a shame if the Tennessee Titans did not make the playoffs

To earn an AFC Wild Card berth, things are also complicated. Tennessee and the Pittsburgh Steelers are both 8-6 but the Steelers hold the tiebreaker edge for the #6 seed in the AFC.
In both scenarios, Tennessee going 2-0 and hoping for help is how things will play out.
Can Tennessee Rebound?
The Titans haven’t lost consecutive games since early October. However, there were some disconcerting signs in Sunday’s defeat.

Ryan Succop missed a field goal. He’s 1-for-6 since returning from injury. A Ryan Tannehill interception set up a Texans TD.
Tennessee was a 5.5-point underdog at home to Kansas City and won outright 35-32. It’s hard to imagine the line getting any larger on this game than it is now. If anything, it’s more likely to move toward the Titans.
