And then there were 14.

The NFL playoff field has been finalized after an eventful Week 18. To no one’s surprise, the Kansas City Chiefs have the best 2023 Super Bowl odds, after finishing with a 14-3 mark and the top seed in the AFC.

While the Philadelphia Eagles won the NFC and the lone first-round bye that comes with it, they’re actually looking up at the San Francisco 49ers, who own the best title odds in the conference at +500.

Let’s run down all the odds of the teams that will be competing for the Lombardi trophy, and some of our favorite wagers.

Count On Kansas City

As long as 2023 NFL MVP odds leader Patrick Mahomes is healthy, the Kansas City Chiefs are going to be business — and a good title bet.

Under Mahomes’ watch, KC has a Super Bowl title, and four straight trips to the AFC Championship. They’ve also secured the conference’s top seed for the third time in five years.

The Chiefs boast the league’s highest-scoring offense and pump out 297.8 yards per game by the pass — 30 yards clear of second place. They’re the only team to post better than 400+ yards of total offense (413.6). Their defense is good enough, with a star in Chris Jones, who had 15.5 sacks this season.

About the only concern for the Chiefs will be the scheduling quirk of the potential AFC title against the Buffalo Bills. Because of the game cancellation between the Bills and Bengals in Week 17, should KC-Buffalo meet in the playoffs for a third straight year, it will be played on a neutral field.

Other AFC Teams to Watch

There are two real threats to the Chiefs. The Bills have been waiting to break through that window, and as the 2-seed with that AFC title game scenario, they don’t have to play a single road game en route to the Super Bowl.

The Josh Allen-led Bills are the second-highest scoring team in the NFL, and they are the top-rated team in the NFL by DVOA( no. 1 offense and no. 4 defense).

There are concerns on defense though, with Von Miller and Micah Hyde done for the year with injuries.

Don’t sleep on the Bengals. Last year’s AFC Champion has reeled off eight straight wins to finish the season.

Joe Burrow makes it three outstanding pivots at the top of the conference.  Cincy is seventh in scoring at 26.1 points per game and seventh in scoring D, limiting clubs to 20.1 per game.

49ers, Eagles Favorites in NFC

The 49ers are surging into the playoffs on a 10-game win streak — they haven’ t lost since October 23.

They’ve done it with 7th-round pick Brock Purdy at pivot for the last six.

San Fran is loaded at almost every position but pivot, with a devastating top-rated defense that allows an NFL-low 16.3 points per game and a microscopic 77.7 rush yards per contest.

Their meteoric rise coincides with the end-of-season struggle by the NFC’s top seed, the Philadelphia Eagles. After a 12-1 start, Jalen Hurts went down with a shoulder injury, and the team dropped two in a row.

A very conservative gameplan in Hurts’ return in Week 18 led to a win over the Giants, and locked up the conference. They seem like outstanding value at +550 odds.

The Eagles boast a ferocious pass rush that totaled 70 sacks on the year, holding teams to just 179.8 passing yards per game, the lowest in the NFL. Couple that with an offense that pumped out 28.1 points per game, and they’re going to be a tough out.

Other Value Wagers for Super Bowl

Two teams really stand out to me in terms of value, both in the NFC and going head-to-head on Wild Card weekend.

The Buccaneers (+3000) are the only team to get in with a sub-.500 record, but it’s hard to bet against Tom Brady. The 45-year-old set the record for completions in a season with 490, beating his own mark of 485 he set in 2021.

This is a team with title pedigree, and a Wild Card win could get the ball rolling. Ditto for their opponent, the Dallas Cowboys (+1200).

Perhaps no team is more inconsistent with the talent it possesses than Dallas, who looked brutal in a 26-6 loss to the Commanders in Week 18.

Still, they possess a playmaking defense, a powerful offensive line, and good playmakers at each level. It will come down to Dak Prescott, who enters the playoffs having thrown an interception in seven straight games.
