Houston’s Odds History

Entering the season, Houston’s Super Bowl 54 odds were +2200. On Sept. 11, they went up to +3767 after losing to the Saints. Houston was still a team many expected to make the playoffs, but not a team many had faith could win the Super Bowl.

The Texans went 2-2 to start the season, including an ugly 16-10 home loss to the Carolina Panthers, and their odds were still around +3300 after Week 4.

However, after posting two straight Ws, including their the latest comeback road win over Kansas City, their odds have improved from +3067 to +2000.

Their next three games are against the Indianapolis Colts (road), Oakland Raiders (home), and Jacksonville Jaguars (road).

Is There Any Value?

There is no question the Houston Texans are a very good football team, as evidenced by their win over the Chiefs. They played solid football on both sides of the balland shut down one of the best offenses in the second half.

Yet, Houston has also had trouble scoring the football at times this season. In their games against Jacksonville and Carolina, they put up 23 points, combined. But, against bad defenses like the Atlanta Falcons, they had no trouble scoring.

When Houston fails on offense, it’s almost always because their subpar offensive line is being exploited. In short, that’s why there’s little value in their Super Bowl 54 futures at +2000. In order to run the playoff gauntlet, they will have to overcome teams like New England, Buffalo, and Indianapolis — i.e. teams with excellent front-sevens which will victimize the soft underbelly of this Houston offense.

This Texans team is likely to be playing on Wild Card weekend, but not much further than that.
