Panthers Undervalued in NHL Odds

The Florida Panthers are underpriced in the 2022 Stanley Cup odds following an impressive offseason. The team brought in forwards Sam Reinhart and Joe Thornton to compliment an already talented roster. Joel Quenneville’s team will also have a fully healthy Aaron Ekblad to begin the season.

It’s easy to forget the type of season Ekblad was having before a brutal leg injury cut his 2020-21 campaign short. The former Calder Trophy winner was leading the NHL in goals (11) and averaging over 25 minutes of ice time when he suffered the injury in a May contest against Dallas. He’ll provide a huge boost to the team’s power-play and defensive game.

Florida finished second in the Central Division last season and actually had more wins than the first-place Hurricanes. The Panthers boast one of the deepest forward groups in the NHL led by Aleksander Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau. Patric Hornqvist, Sam Bennett and Anthony Duclair don’t receive as much attention, but all played big roles last season.

Two top-end prospects give the Panthers major upside in the NHL odds. Goalie Spencer Knight is an early contender in the Calder odds, while Owen Tippett is primed for a breakout season after impressing in the 2021 NHL Playoffs and 2021-22 NHL preseason. With a roster as balanced as this one, you can’t go wrong betting the Panthers as a Stanley Cup longshot.

Winnipeg Jets Due For Breakout Year

The Winnipeg Jets are another you want to target at a longshot price in the Stanley Cup odds. The Jets boast one of the most lethal top-six offenses in the NHL and have the goalie who is favored in the Vezina Trophy odds. They also made some nice offseason additions to a shaky blueline that has been their downfall in the past.

Winnipeg acquired Nate Schmidt and Brenden Dillon through trades this season, while youngsters Logan Stanley and Ville Heinola are primed to make an impact. With Josh Morrissey and Neal Pionk also in the fold, the Jets should be much better defensively in 2021-22. Goalie Connor Hellebuyck is among the league leaders in save percentage each season.

Hellebuyck gives the Jets a chance to win very night, but it’s their offense that make thema true Stanley Cup sleeper. Blake Wheeler, Mark Scheifele, Kyle Connor and Nikolaj Ehlers help makeup one of the league’s most dangerous top-six groups. Pierre-Luc Dubois is also part of that equation and could be the x-factor in his first full year with Winnipeg.

When it comes to making NHL predictions, it’s hard to bet against the Avalanche in the Central Division. But Nathan MacKinnon and company have yet to make it out of the second round. When Hellebuyck is your goalie, anything is possible. After sweeping the Oilers last season and making some key offseason moves, the Jets are primed to make noise in 2021-22.
