  • The Boston Bruins are -136 road favorites over the Philadelphia Flyers in an NHL game slated for Saturday, November 20
  • Boston has lost its last two games at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center

The Boston Bruins are heading to Philadelphia to face the Flyers as a well-rested bunch. Boston hasn’t played a game in five days. In fact, the Bruins have played an NHL-low 13 games this season.

Perhaps it’s that lack of action which is serving as the reasoning behind the Bruins being a -136 road favorite in Philly on Saturday night, because the NHL betting lines aren’t supporting this notion. Boston is 2-4 both straight up and against the spread as an away team so far this season.

Bruins vs Flyers Trends

Jacob Zboril began the season as Boston’s seventh defenseman. However, Zboril has since won his way into regular duty. Connor Clifton will get the healthy scratch treatment from the Boston blueline for Saturday’s game.

Bruins forward David Pastrnak has registered a team-leading six assists and eight points over the past five games.

A big discrepancy between the two teams comes on the power play. Boston is a solid seventh in the NHL at 25.0%. Philly is 21st overall in the league with the man advantage at 14.9%.

Bruins vs Flyers Injury Report

The return of Flyers’ defenseman Ryan Ellis from a three-week absence due to a lower-body injury lasted all of one game. He’s back on the shelf for 4-6 weeks with the same ailment. It’s believed to be either a hip or a groin issue. Ellis has missed 11 of the Flyers’ 15 games.

Bruins forward Trent Frederic suffered a lower-body injury November 9 against the Ottawa Senators. He hasn’t played since.

Bruins Beating Flyers’ Hart

Philadelphia netminder Carter Hart has struggled during his career when facing the Bruins. In 10 career appearances against Boston he’s 4-4-0-2 with a 3.74 goals-against average. Compare to backup Martin Jones, Hart is a Vezina Trophy contender. Jones is 1-3-0-2 in seven starts against the Bs. He’s showing a 4.09 GAA.

Bruins vs Flyers Projected Starting Goalies

Team Goalie Record SV% GAA
Bruins Linus Ullmark 3-3-0 .901 3.03
Flyers Carter Hart 5-3-3 .932 2.25

Linus Ullmark will get the nod on Saturday for the Bruins. He’s 3-1-1 in five career appearances against the Flyers with a .917 save percentage and 3.00 GAA.

The only rookie to start the season with the Bruins, Jeremy Swayman is 4-0 in November with a .930 save percentage. He’s also 8-0 at TD Garden in his career, which is why Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy will save Swayman for Sunday’s home game against the Calgary Flames.
