Two of the worst defenses face off against each other which should mean goals, right?

Puck drop is scheduled for 10:00pm ET at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia. The game is broadcasted on TNT.

Vancouver On A Winning Streak

Vancouver managing to win two straight games is technically a winning streak. With lowered expectations, the Canucks are 5-4-1 in their last ten games. Rick Tocchet does have the team playing marginally better. Furthermore, they draw an unrested Anaheim team at home.

Vancouver made the game a bit too much of an adventure but the Canucks managed to outlast Nashville in the shootout. This makes sense though. Vancouver yields 3.87 goals per game overall (31st in the NHL). The penalty kill mildly improved but still ranks dead last in the league at 67.9%.

Will Elias Pettersson and Andrei Kuzmenko continue to produce at a high rate offensively? Pettersson now has 30 goals on the season with a league-leading four short-handed goals. The center leads Vancouver in points with 79 in 61 games. Kuzmenko has 29 goals and 27 assists in 62 games. The duo combined with Quinn Hughes (60 points in 59 games) forms a reasonably good offensive nucleus.

Unfortunately, the problem has been special teams and especially goaltending. Thatcher Demko recently returned from injury. However, he gave up four goals in his first appearance back. Currently, the 2022 Vezina top-ten candidate may have awful odds but has won two of his first three starts in 2023.

Anaheim Trying To Keep Things Respectable

The Anaheim Ducks sold a little at the NHL Trade Deadline. Staying around .500 over the past ten games has the Ducks looking respectable.

Anaheim comes off a loss to the Seattle Kraken late on Tuesday night. John Gibson expects to get the night off after starting versus the Kraken. He had been playing well up until last night.

The Ducks give up 39.4 shots per game and a league-worst four goals per game. Anaheim’s penalty kill ranks 30th at 73.6% which is compounded by taking 11.6 penalty minutes per game (29th).

Even worse for Anaheim, when allowing so many chances, it does not help playing the back end of a back-to-back against a team that carries far more potential offensively.

This team bleeds allowing scoring chances and Vancouver excels at creating opportunities lately.

The teams battled earlier this season with the Canucks scoring eight times in a wild 8-5 game that resembled pond hockey.

Ducks vs Canucks Prediction

Vancouver rides in rested and playing some better hockey. Anaheim started to improve some but a young team could break down even worse defensively tonight. Anaheim makes too many mistakes in their own zone as Lukas Dostal could be under siege most of the night.

Ducks vs Canucks Same-Game Parlay Picks

Pick Odds
Vancouver Puckline +115
Over 6.5 Goals -115
PARLAY ODDS  +275

The game carries potential of being another one of those wild and crazy affairs. However, the belief is Vancouver should be able to curtail the scoring somewhat.

Vancouver’s top-six and power play still function solidly and could take advantage of a tired Anaheim team. Anaheim tends to take penalties in waves which benefits the Canucks immensely. Expecting a big night from Vancouver’s offense is not too far-fetched.

Pick: Vancouver -1.5 goals (+115)
