In the 2022 NHL playoffs, both the Edmonton Oilers (10-10-0) and New York Rangers Rangers (10-7-4) found themselves in the Conference Finals.

Both ended up having to watch the Stanley Cup Final at home. But their respective finishes  meant the expectations for 2022/23 were sky high.

With each battling for positioning in their respective divisions, they get set to square off on Saturday afternoon. Will the Rangers be able to wrangle the high-scoring Oilers, or will Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl dominate yet another game?

Oilers vs Rangers Odds

Game Time (ET) Team Puck Line Total Moneyline
Saturday, November 26th Edmonton Oilers +1.5 (-215) Ov 6.5 (+100) +115

The Rangers open up as home favorites for Saturday afternoon. We can chalk that up to having home ice advantage in the world’s most famous arena, and the Oilers trying to find some level of consistency.

There are a lot of reasons that a total of 6.5 will get a lot of action. With names like McDavid, Draisaitl, Artemi Panarin, Mike Zibanejad and Chris Kreider out on the ice, the potential is there. And more often than not, these two make good on it.

Edmonton Oilers Betting Trends

It’s no secret that if Connor McDavid is hot, the Oilers are probably winning. McDavid has recorded 2+ points in ten games this season, and Edmonton is 7-3 in those games.

The NHL’s leading scorer has been held scoreless twice in his last five games and, not surprisingly, Edmonton has lost both.

Edmonton Oilers: Last Five Games

Opponent Final Score Oilers  Moneyline Over/Under
Nov 23 @ NYI 3-0 NYI +122 6.5 (Under)
Nov 21 @ NJD 5-2 NJD +150 6.5 (Over)
Nov 19 vs VGK 4-3 W (OT) -110 6.5 (Over)
Nov 16 vs LAK 3-1 LAK -135 6.5 (Under)
Nov 12 @ FLA 4-2 EDM +163 6.5 (Under)

The biggest issue for the Oilers has been their goaltending. Jack Campbell was supposed to fix that, but the Oilers top free agent signing has struggled, especially recently.

Campbell has given up at least three goals in four of his last five games, including games where he gave up six and seven. Campbell actually  got a bit of a break, sitting four games between the 10th and 23rd.

When he came back he gave up three goals to Islanders in Wednesday’s loss.

New York Rangers Betting Trends

The Rangers have plenty of weapons that could make life a pain for Campbell or Stuart Skinner.

We mentioned Panarin, Zibanejad and Kreider, with Kreider overcoming a frigid start. In 10 games during October, he managed just three goals. Since the calendar flipped to November, Kreider has six goals in 11 games.

And what about Adam Fox? Fox entered Thanksgiving tied for second in scoring by defensemen, and was fourth among blueliners with 17 assists.

New York Rangers: Last Five Games

Opponent Final Score Rangers  Moneyline Over/Under
Nov 23 @ ANA 3-2 ANA -160 6.5 (Under)
Nov 22 @ LAK 5-3 NYR -130 5.5 (Over)
Nov 19 @ SJS 2-1 NYR -170 6.5 (Under)
Nov 17 @ SEA 3-2 SEA (OT) -130 5.5 (Under)
Nov 13 vs ARZ 4-1 NYR -360 6.5 (Under)

The Rangers are coming off of a successful Western road trip. Two wins in four games and five points in the first three games definitely helped.

Wednesday’s loss to Anaheim is disappointing, but John Gibson stood on his head with 41 saves.

Oilers vs Rangers Prediction

Saturday afternoon looks like a classic ‘both teams to score twice’ matchup. There is enough talent on either side to make it happen.

Anything where you can bank on scoring in this game is a good idea, so stick with the over too. Whether it’s Campbell, Skinner or both, there’s always the possibility of a big number going up on the scoreboard.

And with McDavid and Draisaitl on the ice in key situations, the red light could be getting a workout Saturday. Getting the over at +100 only makes it better.

The Pick: Over 6.5 (+100); 1 Unit
