  • The New York Rangers are -130 home favorites over the Toronto Maple Leafs in their NHL game on Thursday, April 13
  • Toronto Is 1-4 straight up in the club’s last five visits to Madison Square Garden
  • The Rangers are 5-1-1 SU in their last seven home games

The Toronto Maple Leafs (49-21-11) have a leg up on the New York Rangers (47-21-13) in that they know they’ll be playing the Tampa Bay Lightning in the upcoming Stanley Cup playoffs and will hold home-ice advantage for the series.

Standings-wise, the Leafs are left with nothing to play for entering the final night of regular-season play. In essence, the same is true for the Rangers. They know they’ll be finishing third in Metropolitan Division and traveling for the first round of the NHL postseason.

What they don’t know yet is who is going to be their opponent in the NHL playoff bracket? Will it be the Carolina Hurricanes or New Jersey Devils?

Regardless, the decision is out of their hands, so expect both teams to be resting some key players and starting backup goalies in this farewell to regular-season play.

Oddsmakers are setting the hometown Rangers as -130 favorites. They’re 12-6-5 straight up this season when facing Atlantic Division opposition.

Puck drop is set for 7:00pm ET on Thursday, April 13 at Madison Square Garden. Americans can watch the game via the NHL package. Canadians can catch the action on TSN4.

Now In Goal For The Leafs . . .

The Leafs just keep losing goalies and winning games. Both Matt Murray (head) and Ilya Samsonov (undisclosed) are out indefinitely with injuries, yet Toronto has won three in a row. In their last game the Leafs beat the Lightning 4-3 with minor league call up Joseph Woll in net and junior net minder Michael Ondruska, signed to an amateur tryout, dressed as the backup.

Woll is 5-1 in six decisions this season. Leafs forward Auston Matthews has reached the 40-goal plateau for the fifth straight season, tying Darryl Sittler for the franchise record. Toronto is 22-13-5 on the road and 15-6-2 when facing Metropolitan Division opposition.

Rangers Riding Six-Game Point Streak

With nothing to play for, look for the Rangers to rest reigning Vezina Trophy winner Igor Shesterkin and start veteran backup Jaroslav Halak between the pipes. New York has claimed points in six successive games (3-0-3).
