Stanley Cup odds are an afterthought for Detroit, but Toronto is at +1000 to win hockey’s “Holy Grail”.

Faceoff is set for 7:00 pm ET at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan broadcasted on ESPN and TVAS. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.

Toronto Maple Leafs Betting Analysis

Toronto comes in cruising along at a 6-3-1 clip in their last ten games. Now, this is a Maple Leafs team that is “resting” Auston Matthews. Matthews did not play Wednesday night, and may also sit out for the Detroit game on Thursday.

Typically, few get surprised by news like this. Matthews played with an injury that had been nagging him for “a good while now”. What is that malady? No one truly knows. Until the top center returns, William Nylander expects to move to the pivot and command one of the top offenses in the NHL.

Nylander, at 26. helps lead the Toronto offense with 22 goals and 45 points in 41 games. That injection of offense with Mitch Marner, who has 49 points, should help a Maple Leafs’ team who won seven of their past nine games without Matthews. With a team defense that holds teams in check, Toronto is still in a good position to win on Thursday night.

Detroit Red Wings Betting Analysis

Unfortunately, the Detroit Red Wings, are a little different. They possess an erratic offense and defense which often does not help their goaltending. Detroit slumped down to sixth in the Atlantic Division as the Red Wings have gone just 4-5-1 in their past ten contests.

The Red Wings plan to keep emphasizing development over winning for now. Part of Detroit’s biggest problem lies with the lack of healthy bodies on defense. Mark Pysyk, Filip Zadina, and Robert Hagg are out. Tyler Bertuzzi returned after missing more than six weeks due to injury.

Also, it does not help that Ville Husso is struggling without a viable backup to help. His odds to win the Vezina Trophy dropped to +4000 and continue to lengthen. The goaltender allowed three or more goals in seven consecutive starts.

The teams faced off twice this season with the Maple Leafs winning both games by more than one goal. Detroit has lost five consecutive matchups — all by two or more goals.

Leafs vs Red Wings Prediction

Now, Detroit lost six of its last eight games at home. Conversely, the Toronto Maple Leafs are 11-6-3 on the road. Even the prospect of a back-to-back and playing without Matthews does not seem to phase bettors or bookmakers.

Leafs vs Red Wings Same-Game Parlay Picks

Pick Odds
Toronto Moneyline -140
Under 6.5 Goals +105
PARLAY ODDS  +220

The dangers of this game are many along with its unknowns. However, Toronto is a known quantity whereas Detroit’s volatility makes it harder to pick anything on their side.

Season matchups dictate a little less scoring than usual. Toronto wants to ideally tighten things defensively with a jammed-pack schedule. Detroit yielding many goals lately means the Red Wings may try the same tact. Finally, watch out to see who plays and who sits.

Pick: Detroit vs Toronto Under 6.5 Goals (-115)
