Looking for their luck to change, the Penguins will give Vegas a try on Thursday, January 5th as they head to Sin City to take on the Golden Knights. Faceoff for this contest is scheduled for 10:00 pm ET and can be seen on AT&T SportsNet Pittsburgh or Rocky Mountain.

Surprisingly, there is no heavy favorite in this game despite the Penguins riding a five-game losing streak and on the road to face a Vegas side that is tops in the West. On the moneyline, Vegas are the chalk with slight -122 odds, with the over/under total sitting at six goals.

Below, we give you the Penguins vs Golden Knights odds while also offering up our best bet and prediction for this tilt from T-Mobile Arena.

The odds on the NHL betting line for this game have shifted overnight with more of the public putting money on Vegas. The Golden Knights have an implied win probability of 54.95% with their current -122 odds to win this game straight up.

Penguins On Five-Game Losing Streak

With the first half of the season almost in the books, we can safely say the Penguins are the streakiest team in the league when it comes to both wins and losses. They are currently riding a five-game losing skid and hoping it doesn’t match the seven straight losses they incurred in the fall.

They should be desperate for a victory in this one with their NHL playoff odds now hanging by a thread.

Goals have been really hard to come by during this losing streak. With a superstar-laden lineup, you’d expect this Pens team to find the twine with regularity, but they’ve tallied just 16 markers in their last seven, an average of just 2.29 per game.

Perhaps they’ll be amped up to face a Vegas side that they’ve had a lot of recent success against. Pittsburgh has scored at least four goals the last four times these squads have gone head-to-head.

Not only have the Penguins taken each of the last four contests between these two, they’ve also taken the last couple matchups in Vegas. On top of that, each one of the last four meetings between these two has gone over in the NHL odds.

Penguins vs Golden Knights Injury Updates

Unfortunately, both sides have injuries to key players. For Vegas, there is some good news, as it appears Jack Eichel is set to make his return to the lineup. The center has missed the last 11 games with a lower-body injury.

After acquiring him from the Sabres in a trade last year, the Golden Knights pushed all their chips into the middle and despite missing the playoffs last year, they are one of the top contenders in the Stanley Cup odds this season.

Still, Vegas is expected to be without Jonathan Marchessault as well as two of their top defensemen in Alec Martinez and Shea Theodore for this contest. Goalie Robin Lehner has been out for the whole season after off-season hip surgery.

On the other side, Pittsburgh is dealing with a number of absences as well. Number one netminder Tristan Jarry had to depart the Winter Classic against the Bruins in the first period and will likely miss this game meaning Casey DeSmith will likely be between the pipes.

Although he’s no longer one of the best bets in the Norris Trophy odds, Kris Letang is still the Pens minute muncher on the blue line and top defenseman. Unfortunately, the veteran’s father passed away in the last week and he may not play as he’s been with his family back home in Montreal.

With Jeff Petry also missing in action for almost a month now, the Penguins’ defense core is looking pretty thin these days and could use some sort of boost.

Penguins vs Golden Knights Pick & Prediction

Following a loss, the Penguins have won just five of 17 games this year. That’s a pitiful .294 winning percentage. While they’ll need to break the skid at some point, it’ll be tough against a Vegas side that should be boosted by the return of their top center.

Pittsburgh’s offensive woes are also something to consider and they’ll likely want to keep this a low-chance affair with their top netminder and two top blueliner’s likely missing this one.

Somewhat eye-raising is the fact that the Pens have the third-best return on investment when betting them to hit the under this season giving a 10.27% rate of return on the money you put down.

All signs point to a Vegas win here, but this Penguins team is too good to struggle for too long and their recent success against the Golden Knights is giving us pause.

Instead, our prediction is that this game stays under six goals, so our pick is for a low-scoring affair between these two in the desert in the Penguins vs Golden Knights odds.

Pick: Under 6 Goals (+100)
