Perhaps the day after the NHL trade deadline should be known as Kenny Rogers Day because the dealing’s done, and it’s time for the gamblers to really get laser-focused on which teams remain legitimate contenders in the updated Stanley Cup odds.
At the top of the charts, there’s been little change. The Colorado Avalanche continue to hold forth as favorites in the Stanley Cup odds. The Avs are listed as the +400 chalk.

Both of the league’s Florida-based franchises are 2-3 in the betting odds. The Atlantic Division-leading Florida Panthers are at +600. Next comes the two-time defending Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning. The Bolts are given a +800 betting line.

Avalanche Remain Stanley Cup Favorite After NHL Trade Deadline
The Avs were already a dynamite team. Colorado lists five 20-goal scorers, including defenseman Cale Makar, the betting choice in the Norris Trophy odds, who’s netted 22 goals. They just may have grown more imposing over the past week. In the NHL betting trends, the Avalanche are clearly going all in this spring.

Loaded with skill among their top-six forwards, Colorado set out to add grit and experience to the bottom six, picking up veterans Andrew Cogliano, Nico Sturm, and Artturi Lehkonen. The latter was a key element in Montreal’s run to the Cup final last spring. Rugged Josh Manson was acquired from Anaheim to beef up the blueline.
Do the Leafs NHL Odds Indicate a Playoff Run?
There will always be more money than sense backing the Toronto Maple Leafs. The fervent faithful of Leaf Nation ensure that this is so. However, it does nothing to solve the most pressing issue impacting the Leafs, and that’s their suspect goaltending. Jack Campbell is ailing, and Petr Mrazek was on waivers. Toronto desperately signed Harri Sateri, who backstopped Finland to Olympic gold in Beijing. However, NHL rules dictated he first had to clear waivers and Sateri was claimed by Arizona.
Not knowing which goalie you can trust is no way to win the Stanley Cup. At +900, the Calgary Flames, with steady Jacob Markstrom between the posts, are the team best-suited to end Canada’s 29-year Stanley Cup drought.

The Avalanche lead the league in points (95), wins (45), and points percentage (.754). Colorado should have a much easier ride to the Cup in the Western Conference in the NHL playoff bracket.
The Eastern Conference figures to be a battle from the get-go. Seven of the 10 teams with the shortest Stanley Cup odds play in the East. Any of them could come out and reach the Cup final.

A team that clearly offers value is the New York Rangers. In Igor Shesterkin they have the favorite in the Vezina Trophy odds and the NHL’s best goalie. They’ve won 20 games at home and 20 games on the road. If you don’t like betting favorites, at +2000, the Rangers offer great value.
They aren’t going to beat the Avs, though. Nobody will. This spring, it’s Colorado’s time to shine.
