  • Champions League holders Monterrey favored for most victories
  • Leon look to follow record 12-win streak
  • Clausura winners Tigres UANL will also set the pace

It was a record-breaking campaign for Leon in Mexican football’s most recent championship as they racked up 12 consecutive wins to finish top of the Clausura section’s regular season table.

But as the Apertura section swings into action, it is Monterrey – the reigning CONCACAF Champions League holders – who are narrowly fancied to secure the most victories during the 17-game regular season campaign.

Win totals have been released for all Liga MX teams for the Apertura season beginning on Friday, July 19, 2019 and we’ll take a look at a few of the best over and under bets below.

Liga MX Apertura Win Total Odds

Team Win Total Win Prediction Over Odds Under Odds
Tigres UANL 9.5 11 +105 -135
Leon 9.5 10 +110 -140
Pachuca 7.5 8 +110 -140
Tijuana 6.5 5 -130 EVEN
Pumas UNAM 6.5 6 -130 EVEN
Veracruz 3.5 2 -165 +125

Odds taken 7/18/19.

Monterrey are rated at -120 to win more than 9.5 times in the Apertura after earning eight victories in this year’s Clausura regular season competition. For fewer than 9.5 wins, it’s -110.

This is despite the fact their city rivals Tigres UANL are favored to win the Apertura championship outright via the playoffs.

And that Tigres have won on more occasions in the most recent two regular season editions of Mexico’s two-handed Liga MX competition.

Four Times Tournament Victors

Tigres have won the Apertura playoff tournament four times since 2011 and lifted the Clausura prize in May.

They won 11 matches during the Clausura league campaign this spring and eight times in the preceding Apertura last fall. Monterrey’s record was eight wins in the Clausura and nine in the Apertura.

Tigres are rated at +105 to win more than 9.5 regular season games in the Apertura after earning 11 victories in this year’s Clausura regular season competition. For fewer than 9.5 wins, their odds are -135.

This reflects the detailed sense of organization and discipline instilled in the Tigres team by coach Tuca Ferreti whose side has been nicknamed the “Team of the Decade”.

Coupled with the eight wins they claimed in the Apertura regular season last autumn, they have won 19 times in 34 fixtures in the most recent two editions of the Liga MX format.

This reflects the detailed sense of organization and discipline instilled in the Tigres team by coach Tuca Ferreti whose side has been nicknamed the “Team of the Decade” in Mexico.

The oddsmakers believe that Club America also have a chance of beating the 9.5 wins total.

Buoyed by the competition’s biggest signing of the summer in former LA Galaxy playmaker Giovani Dos Santos, they are fancied at +110 to beat the tally. They are -140 to fall short.

Club America Won 18 Times

America won nine times in the recently-completed Clausura and nine times in the Apertura in 2018, which they went on to win via the playoffs.

Mexico’s soccer championship is two-handed with both the Apertura and Clausura competition staged over the period of a season.

The Apertura regular season will run from July until November with the eight leading teams qualifying for the playoff tournament.

Outside of the bigger clubs, there is a particularly good opportunity offered by Pachuca. They won eight games in the Clausura and six in the last Apertura for a total of 14 wins.

They are an inviting +110 to surpass 7.5 wins this time and are -140 to fail.

It was particularly frustrating for Leon in the most recent Clausura. They won 13 times in all to lead the regular season table. But they were beaten in the playoff final by Tigres.

Their win ratio is reflected in the fact that the oddsmakers believe they can match Club America, with Leon’s odds also +110 to beat the 9.5 target and -140 to fall short.

However, they won only five matches in last autumn’s most recent Apertura.

Cruz Azul Match Tigres Record

Cruz Azul offer some value as the only team to have matched Tigres’ combined record of 19 wins in the two most recent regular league competitions.

They have boosted their strength by signing Paraguayan centre-back Juan Escobar and Argentine attacking midfielder Guillermo.

They are rated at -110 to win more than 8.5 games. For fewer, it’s -120.

Tijuana won an impressive nine games in the Clausura this year. But they managed just four victories in last year’s Apertura.

Toluca are another team to watch after winning a total of 15 games recently in the Apertura and Clausura. They are priced at -115 to beat the 8.5 victories target and are also -115 to fall short.

That offers better value than Santos Laguna. They are rated at -150 to pass the 7.5 wins mark after six wins in the most recent Apertura and eight in this year’s Clausura. They are +115 to miss out.

Tijuana won an impressive nine games in the Clausura this year. To win more than 6.5 games, they are ranked at -130. They are even-money to win fewer. But they managed just four victories in last year’s Apertura.

Best Over Bets: Tigres over 9.5; Leon over 9.5; Pachuca over 7.5

Best Under Bets: Tijuana under 6.5; Pumas under 6.5; Veracruz under 3.5
