It is Chelsea vs Liverpool in the FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, May 14 at 11:45 am ET – the showpiece afternoon of the English soccer season.
While Liverpool’s chance of a record-breaking quadruple took a blow when they drew at home to Spurs in the EPL, it’s still a possibility and so here they will try and tick the FA Cup off that list.
We preview Chelsea vs Liverpool and offer below the best picks for this massive FA Cup Final clash.
Chelsea vs Liverpool Odds
Matchup | Moneyline |
---|---|
Chelsea | +255 |
Liverpool | +110 |
Draw | +235 |
Odds as of May 13 at Barstool Sportsbook
The bookies have Liverpool listed as narrow favorites in the FA Cup odds at +110 which comes with a 46% implied win probability, compared to Chelsea’s +255 with an implied probability of 28%. The draw after 90 minutes offers a decent return at +235, with an implied probability of 30%, which is well worth noting given how close this is likely to be.

They list over 2.5 goals at a short -115 – not unreasonable given how free-scoring Liverpool, in particular, has been of late – but let’s not expect an end-to-end goal-fest at this late stage of the season.

Chelsea vs Liverpool Prediction
Chelsea started the season as reigning European champions and was soon to add the FIFA World Club Championship to their list of honors, but it has not been an easy season off the pitch for the Blues of West London. They have been unable to stay with Man City and Liverpool in the title race and the war in Ukraine meant their ownership under Roman Abramovich had to come to a controversial end.
Things have settled down of late though and last week it was announced that a consortium led by Todd Boehly will soon be confirmed as the club’s new owners. On the field, a recent wobble in their quest to be playing Champions League soccer next season looks to be over and last weekend, an easy 3-0 away at Leeds all but confirmed their appearance in next season’s tournament.

The Blues the 21st Century FA Cup Kings
En route to this final, Chelsea beat Chesterfield, Plymouth Argyle, Luton Town, and Middlesbrough before seeing off Crystal Palace in the semifinal, and was made to work hard along the way. But each hurdle was negotiated successfully and they have now given themselves a chance of winning a ninth FA Cup crown – which would make them the tournament’s third most decorated club.
Most of their successes have come in the 21st century, with wins in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, and 2018 editions – the 2012 final being against Liverpool – and all have been achieved in the time since the Reds last won it, which was 2006.

Midweek Win Over Villa Shows Liverpool Resilience
The price Liverpool has had to pay for such a successful, potentially record-breaking season is a packed schedule of games, but with a big squad at his disposal, Reds’ manager Jurgen Klopp has carefully managed the workload of his players in recent weeks. While their fatigue has not been obvious, performance levels have dipped slightly even though they keep winning.
The only time they looked tired was in the home draw with Spurs, which may ultimately cost them the EPL title, but generally, they have found ways to win. This was in evidence again on Tuesday when, despite falling behind against Aston Villa, they clawed their back to win 2-1.

Seven Wins in Last Eight for Klopp’s Reds
In order to reach this final, Liverpool registered wins over Shrewsbury Town, Cardiff, Norwich, Nottingham Forest, and Man City, with the semifinal win over City being one of their best performances of an already outstanding campaign. The Reds, despite playing under huge pressure, have still managed to win seven of their last eight with the only slight blemish on that record being a run of three without a clean sheet.
Even if Klopp’s men fail to land the quadruple, a win here would see them complete the domestic cup double for the first time since 2001 – no mean feat in itself. So we should expect an epic encounter, with two giants of the English game going toe-to-toe.

Chelsea vs Liverpool Team Lineups and Injuries
Chelsea Projected Lineup: Mendy, Azpilicueta, Silva, Rudiger, James, Jorginho, Kante, Alonso, Mount. Havertz, Werner.
Chelsea Injuries: Kovacic, Chilwell, Hudson-Odoi.
Liverpool Projected Lineup: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Keita, Henderson, Thiago, Salah, Mane, Diaz.
Liverpool Injuries: Fabinho.
Chelsea vs Liverpool Picks
With this game being a repeat of February’s EFL Cup, which Liverpool eventually won on penalties, everything points to this being very close. Penalty kicks are again a possibility, as is extra time, and so it’s for that reason that I see value in the +235 for the draw after 90 minutes. Expect too a low-scoring game, one likely to be settled by the odd goal.
Picks: Chelsea and Liverpool to draw (+235) / Under 2.5 goals (-107)
