Club America vs Pachuca Prediction

Club America reached this semifinal after an aggregate 4-3 win over Puebla in their quarterfinal. They managed a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Puebla but got the job done in spectacular fashion on their home patch just three days later. In a tight first half, it was Club who struck first through Martín’s twice-taken penalty on 43-minutes but the visitors’ managed an equalizer before half-time through Reyes’ overhead kick.

Goals from Valdés and Zendejas then took the game beyond the reach of the visitors before Aristiguieta concluded the scoring with a 95th-minute consolation. This is the first time Las Aguilas have reached the semifinal stage for three seasons – their last being the 2019 Torneo Apertura. Club America is currently on an unbeaten run of eight games, made up of six wins and two draws.

Poor Club Semi Record When at Azteca for 1st Leg

Club America has not enjoyed the latter knockout stages of this tournament in recent seasons, and has, in fact, not made it to the final when the first leg of the semi has been played at the Estadio Azteca in their last seven attempts. Their first-leg record in that time has been one win, one draw, and five defeats.

Dramatic Night in Pachuca

Pachuca ended the regular-season campaign at the top of the Liga MX table and so have more than earned their semi-final place, which they secured thanks to a thrilling  5-4 aggregate quarterfinal win over Atletico San Luis. After drawing the first leg 2-2, the tie burst into life in leg 2 when Ibanzez gave Pachuca a 47th-minute lead; one that was canceled out just by Chavez just five minutes later.

The tie looked to be heading the way of the home team when Cabral restored their lead on 69-minutes but was turned on its head when three minutes into added-on time, Hernandez’ goal for Atletico restored parity. Yet more drama was to follow when, with 96 minutes on the clock, Ibanzez scored his second of the game to give Pachuca the win.

Pachuca Hold Upper Hand Over Club in Semis

Pachuca also qualified for the semifinals last season, when they were knocked out by Cruz Azul, but have a particularly good record at this stage of the competition when Club America are their opponents. Out of their last five semifinal meetings, Las Aguilas have only managed to get the better of Pachuca just once.

Club America vs Pachuca Pick

Club being listed as odds-on favorites is reflective of their home advantage and their stature in Mexican soccer but by most other metrics, it is the visitors who look to have the upper hand here. Given though that both of these teams drew their quarterfinal first legs, there is value here in betting on a repeat.

Pick: Club America and Pachuca to draw (+230)
