The final five fixtures of CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying take place on Tuesday night. Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador and Uruguay have already secured qualification. Paraguay, Bolivia and Venezuela are eliminated. For Chile, Colombia and Peru, though, it’s all to play for as the three compete for a spot in the inter-confederation playoffs.
Two of the three will be ruled out of the 2022 World Cup odds this week. Colombia, who have struggled throughout qualifying, gave themselves a chance by beating Bolivia on Matchday 17, while Peru and Chile suffered defeats to Uruguay and Brazil respectively.
There are dead rubbers in La Paz and Guayaquil as Bolivia host Brazil and Argentina visit Ecuador. Our attention is on the other three fixtures as Chile face Uruguay, Peru host Paraguay and Colombia make the trip to Estadio Cachamay.

Chile vs Uruguay Prediction
Chile are outsiders heading into Round 18. They must win to stand a chance of progressing and hope that both Peru and Colombia drop points. Getting hammered by Brazil a few days ago was not exactly ideal preparation for La Roja, who have lost their last two home matches and suffered a late defeat to Uruguay when the teams faced off in October 2020. They have matched up since then, however, drawing 1-1 in the Copa America.
While Uruguay don’t have anything to play for, this is still a fiercely competitive squad. Luis Suarez and Darwin Nunez are both available to lead the line, with Facundo Pellistri as the only absentee. Lucas Torreira and Rodrigo Bentancur make a formidable midfield pairing. La Celeste have won their last three matches, and will be keen to perform well in their last competitive match before the World Cup.

With only one defeat in their last five contests with Chile, Uruguay to win or draw (the double chance market) seems like a solid bet in this one. Chile will be forced to chase the game from the first whistle and that should play in to the hands of Diego Alonso’s side.
Pick: Uruguay to win or draw (-139)
Peru vs Paraguay Prediction
Peru can cement a playoff spot with a victory here. They will have to do so without Andre Carillo, however, and Miguel Araujo will likely be limited to a role off the bench. It was a dramatic 2-2 draw when these sides met in the return fixture back in October 2020, with Paraguay thinking they’d scored a late winner before Carillo’s 85th-minute equalizer.
Paraguay clocked a surprise win over Ecuador last time out, ending a winless run which stretched back to September. They have nothing to play for other than pride here, and have really struggled in their away fixtures. It’s just one win and two goals scored from eight road matches in this qualifying campaign. Peru, in contrast, have recorded several impressive results on home soil, including beating Chile, Bolivia and Venezuela to nil.

It’s hard to look past a Peru win here. They lost to Uruguay last time out, but they have been superb at home, and their defense has been able to keep out far more talented attacking sides than Paraguay.
Pick: Peru to win to nil (+112)
Venezuela vs Colombia Prediction
Considered a dark horse in World Cup futures & outrights in 2018, Colombia are at risk of missing the tournament altogether in 2022. Los Cafeteros have just four wins in the group, and their only victory on the road came against Peru behind closed doors in June last year.

Venezuela, though, are understandably hefty underdogs here. They are bottom of the group, and lost 3-0 when they played the reverse fixture in 2020. All three were scored before half-time. That’s obviously a long time ago in the world of international football, and while Colombia beat Bolivia last time out, they don’t come into this match in the best form. It’s just two wins from nine matches, and prior to scoring three against Bolivia, goal scoring had been a real problem.
Having conceded 10 over their last four games, Venezuela don’t have the defense to restrict Colombia like others have done. Knowing they probably need a win here, this could be a similar match to their win over Bolivia. We expect a comfortable away win.
Pick: Colombia -1.5 (+190)
