Oddsmakers are expecting Erling Haaland to make an immediate impact in the English Premier League this season. The jewel of Manchester City’s additions in the summer is a +275 favorite in the  EPL Golden Boot odds in his first Premier League season.

There are four players with odds of +1000 or shorter, including Mohamed Salah who was co-winner of the Golden Boot last year and has led the league in scoring on three occasions. Son Heung-Min, last year’s other co-winner, sits outside the top five favorites ranking sixth with odds of +1400.

Interestingly enough, it’s taken exactly 23 goals to win the top scorer award in the EPL for each of the last three seasons. Will Haaland Struggle in First EPL Season?

Some are deciding to stick with strikers who have a proven track record of finding the back of the net in the EPL. With Haaland making his debut in England’s top flight, cautious bettors may want to take a wait and see approach.

Recently, Pierre-Emerick Aubamayeng finished in a three-way tie for EPL top scorer honors with 22 goals in 2018-19, his debut season in England’s top flight.

Although the level of play in the Bundesliga is not quite as strong as the EPL, Haaland has proven time and time again that he has no problem competing against the top clubs in Europe. He has 23 goals in just 19 Champions League matches and is the youngest player to reach 20 goals in the competition.

Erling Haaland has only failed to score against two of the 11 teams he's faced in the Champions League, netting 23 goals in 19 #UCL appearances.

With Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo finally beginning to show some decline, Haaland and Kylian Mbappe have earned the right to be regarded as the best strikers in the sport.

Playing on a Manchester City aside with an assortment of playmakers should help the Norwegian forward score with regularity in his first season with his new club. The Citizens scored a whopping 99 goals last year and it wouldn’t be surprising if they topped that total this year.

Biggest Threats to Haaland in Race for Golden Boot

There are plenty of threats to keep Haaland from taking the crown this year. Salah and Harry Kane have each led the league in scoring three times apiece. Salah rarely misses games due to injury and has averaged 23.6 goals per season since coming back to England, enough to lead the league in each of the last four years.

Kane on the other hand has slowed down a bit as he approaches 30 years of age. He’s topped the 20 goal mark just once over the last four seasons. Still he’s just a year removed from his last Golden Boot award.

Surprisingly, his partner in crime, Son is the fifth betting favorite despite coming off his most productive season in the EPL. At +1400, he’s definitely worth a look.

Although, not exactly a longshot, with the fourth best odds at +1000, keep your eye on a breakout season for new Arsenal signing Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian was not always Pep Guardiola’s first choice at Manchester City, but he’ll definitely be the star forward attraction with the Gunners.

He scored seven goals in his five pre-season appearances with Arsenal and averaged a goal every 37.85 minutes. With Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette departing the North London club, expect Jesus to also be the first choice to take penalties for Arsenal this season as well.

English Premier League Golden Boot Picks & Prediction

This is an instance where the best bet is to go with Haaland as the favorite at +275. Not only has he already proven to be a world class striker, but now he’ll be getting service from some unbelievable playmakers at City with Kevin De Bruyne, Riyad Mahrez and Phil Foden looking to set up their new acquisition.

The only worrisome issue related to the hulking Norwegian is if he can stay healthy. He missed a couple months last season with hamstring and hip flexor injuries. Haaland has never made 30 appearances in a domestic league season, and he’ll likely have to this year to win the Golden Boot.

If you’d like to spread the money around in your EPL picks, Jesus is a great bet to consider at +1000. At 25 years of age and with a new squad he appears poised to explode for a breakout season although he has never scored more than 14 goals in a Premier League season.
