Juve are listed as favorites but still in plus money at +123, which has a 45% implied win probability. Benfica are pitched at +225 for the win – a probability of 31% – but this feels much closer than 102 moneyline points in favor of Juve.

The draw is listed at +240, which with an implied probability of 29% appears generous.

Over/Under and Spread

Caesars has listed over 2.5 goals at an unappealing -105 with the flip side, under 2.5, at an equally unenticing -125;  a sign the bookies are finding this a tricky call in terms of the type of game we’re going to see.

Juventus vs Benfica Prediction

These are tough times for Juve and if they were hoping to turn over a new leaf in 2022-23 after a disastrous 2021-22, they will be disappointed. They kick off against Benfica on Wednesday night hoping for a first win in seven, are down in eighth in Serie A, and in their UCL league opener last week they lost to PSG. But – and it’s a big but – the defeat in Paris is their only defeat of the season so far.

For Max Allegri’s Juve, it has been a season largely of draws – four to date in their six Serie A games – with the latest coming in very controversial circumstances on Sunday when they came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Salernitana.

Injury-Time Drama in Turin

Juve even thought they had won Sunday’s game but Arkadiusz Milik’s injury-time ‘winner’ was ruled out by VAR for an offside. In the ensuing melee, Allegri and two of his players – Milik and Cuadrado – were shown the red card.

A win over Benfica is much-needed as Juve look for something to ignite their season and is doubly important as it looks likely they will be battling the Portuguese side for second spot in Group H.  In the six times these two teams have met, Benfica holds the upper hand with four wins, while the Italians have only won once.

Benfica on the Crest of a Wave

Benfica couldn’t be in better shape right now and head to Turin bursting full of confidence and belief. This season, they have won 11 from 11 and if we go back to last season, that winning run extends to 17. In that time they have scored 47 times and have kept 10 clean sheets. Their last defeat was on May 7 vs Porto.

After finishing third in last season’s Primeira Liga, they had to qualify for this season’s UCL group stages but did so with ease by beating FC Midtjylland and Dynamo Kyiv last month. They followed this up with an equally comfortable 2-0 home win over Maccabi Haifa on Matchday 1.

Seventeen Unbeaten for The Eagles of Lisbon

At the weekend, they maintained their two-point lead at the top of the Primeira Liga over Braga with a hard-fought 1-0 away win over Famalicao – a win that set them up perfectly for this game, which is likely to be their toughest test of the season so far.

Roger Schmidt’s men will still be looking to maintain their attacking ethos – the one that has served them so well over that 17-game run – but will be wary of Juve, who will be roared on by a noisy, expectant Turin crowd.

Juventus vs Benfica Pick

The list of big-name absentees for Juve tells the story of a squad that has been hit hard by injuries and for Benfica, this is a good time to play them.

While this will be the Portuguese team’s biggest challenge of the season so far, it’s one they are well-equipped to meet head-on.  The value here is with the away win.

Pick: Benfica to win (+225)
