  • Only two English teams in history have been undefeated
  • Guardiola’s champions beaten four times last season
  • Liverpool lost only once but missed out narrowly

Manchester City won all three major soccer trophies in England last season so now one of their next targets could be to go through a whole EPL season undefeated.

Odds to Go Unbeaten in EPL 2019/20

Team Odds
Manchester City +5000
Liverpool +6000
Chelsea +50000
Tottenham Hotspur +50000
Arsenal +60000
Manchester United +70000

(Odds taken at 2019/06/18.)

Pep Guardiola’s reigning champions are the team most favored at +5000 to achieve the feat. It has been done only twice before in England’s top flight.

It was second-placed Liverpool who came nearest last season after losing only once – away at City. But they are favored second at +6000 to remain unbeaten over the course of the 38 fixtures.

Arsenal and PNE Are the Only ‘Invincibles’

Arsenal’s champions of 2003-2004 are known as The Invincibles after being unbeaten all campaign. The nickname was given originally in the Victorian era when Preston North End were undefeated champions of the old First Division in 1888-89.

No other major club is ranked near City and Liverpool’s chances of achieving this hugely difficult record. Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are at +50000 while Arsenal are at +60000 and Manchester United are at +70000.

City were beaten four times on the way to winning the EPL for the second successive season in 2018-19. But they drew only twice and won 32 matches – allowing them to finish ahead of Liverpool on the final day.

After winning the Champions League in early June and being so close to success in the EPL, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will now be even more determined to land the team’s first title since 1990.

Although Liverpool lost only once, they drew seven times and won 30 matches.

Guardiola’s side also won the FA Cup and the EFL Cup and were the first winners of a treble in England.

They racked up 14 straight victories during the season in the EPL following their final defeat of the campaign at Newcastle United where they lost 2-1 on January 29.

Three Defeats Last December for City

Their three other defeats came in a rocky period in December when they were beaten 0-2 at Chelsea, 2-3 at home by Crystal Palace and 1-3 at Leicester City.

The City manager is looking to strengthen his resources for next season by signing the Juventus fullback Joao Cancelo and the Benfica starlet Joao Felix.

The major target for the club next season will be the Champions League. However, Guardiola will also be keen to add to his legacy in England by winning a third consecutive title –  something achieved only five times previously.
