Napoli vs Juventus Over/Under and Spread

Oddsmakers are expecting this to be tight and probably low-scoring with over 2.5 goals at evens and the under pitched at -130.

Napoli vs Juventus Preview

Napoli returned to winning ways last weekend with a solid 2-0 away win over Sampdoria, but four days earlier saw their unbeaten record end at the San Siro when Inter beat them 1-0. It was not the return they wanted after a prolonged World Cup/winter break.

The win over Sampdoria, however, plus the fact that AC Milan, Inter, and Lazio all dropped points, increased their lead at the top of Serie A to seven points and dispelled any doubts about their title credentials.

A Test of Nerve for Napoli

So far it has been a phenomenal season for the Neapolitans, who appear on course for their first title since 1990. The goals have flowed freely as reflected in their outstanding record of scoring 59 goals in their 23 so far in this campaign. As well as leading Serie A, they also have a round-of-16 Champions League tie with Eintracht Frankfurt in February.

The next few weeks will be a test of Luciano Spalletti’s team’s nerve as well as skill, as they have been in a similar position to this twice in recent seasons but have been unable to see the job through.

Juve Win Eight on the Spin

After a miserable start to the season for Juve, during which the fans turned on their team, they have turned things around spectacularly by winning eight games on the bounce. Even more remarkable is that during those games they have not conceded a single goal.

This outstanding run has seen the Old Lady return to its values of old, with a watertight defense being the backbone of the team. This has been typified in their two games since the restart, both of which have been scrappy 1-0 wins that were borne of their ability to win ugly.

The Old Lady With the Meanest Defense in Serie A

With Federico Chiesa finally returning to the side after a long-term injury in their midweek win over Cremonese, the good news keeps on coming, with Juve head coach Max Allegri also likely to have Paul Pogba, Mattia De Sciglio, Dusan Vlahovic, Leonardo Bonucci, and Juan Cuadrado available again in the next couple of weeks.

With 12 clean sheets from their 17 games so far and just seven goals conceded, the signs are good for Juve as only once in the last 15 seasons has the side with the best defensive record in Serie A not gone on to win it.

Napoli vs Juventus Team Lineups and Injuries

Napoli Projected Lineup: Meret, Di Lorenzo, Kim Min-Jae, Rrahmani, Olivera, Zambo Anguissa, Lobotka, Zielinski, Politano, Osimhen, Kvaratskhelia.

Injuries & absences: None.

Juventus Projected Lineup: Szczesny, Danilo, Rugani, Gatti, McKennie, Rabiot, Locatelli, Miretti, Kostic, Di Maria, Milik

Injuries & absences: Vlahovic, Pogba, Bonucci, Cuadrado, De Sciglio, Bremer.

Napoli vs Juventus Prediction

While it’s understandable that Napoli starts as odds-on favorites, this Juve team is on a roll. They have left their off-field problems behind and with some big names returning from injury, their winning run shows no sign of ending anytime soon.

With Napoli soon likely to start feeling the pressure that comes with a title run-in, for me, the value here is with the Juve win.

Picks: Juventus to win (+305)
