UEFA Nations League Matchday 5 Odds & Picks: Belgium vs England Highlights November 15 Schedule

The UEFA Nations League returns this weekend with Matchday 5 beginning on Saturday and continuing on Sunday.

Sunday features two matches at 9:00 am EST, followed by seven at 12:00 pm EST and another nine at 2:45 pm EST. Matchday 6 will then be played over Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Sunday, highlight matches feature Belgium hosting England and Italy hosting Poland in League A, as well as plenty of other interesting matches to dig into.

Nations League Odds – Nov 15

Pick 1: Belgium vs England

Sunday sees League A Group 2 leaders Belgium hosting third-place England at 2:45 pm EST.

Belgium is 3-0-1 with that lone defeat coming on October 10 in England. Despite taking an early lead through a Romelu Lukaku penalty, England would draw level before the half with a PK goal of their own from Marcus Rashford. Mason Mount would score what turned out to the winner in the second half with a goal at the 65′ minute mark.

The game saw Belgium just edging the possession battle at 52-percent and leading in attempts 10-9, while England held the advantage in shots on target 3-2 and corners 7-5.

Belgium responded with a 2-1 away win in Iceland in their next match, while also having another win over Iceland (5-1) and win over Denmark (2-0) on their resume in Nations League play.

After the big result over Belgium, Gareth Southgate’s men came crashing back to Earth with a 1-0 home loss to Denmark in their next match. All of England’s matches have been tight and outside of the Belgium win, they’ve only scored one other goal in four matches. Their first two matches in the Nations League saw them win 1-0 on the road in Iceland and draw 0-0 away to the Danes.

For Belgium, they should have Romelu Lukaku back in the lineup who has missed some time with Inter Milan due to injury. He did make a brief return in his last Serie A match. Eden Hazard though has tested positive for the coronavirus.

England is facing a few selection issues with the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez and James Ward-Prowse all injured. Meanwhile, both Harry Maguire and Reece James received red cards in the Denmark defeat.

Prior to their loss to England in this competition, Belgium had been on a streak of 13 matches without defeat. They had also seen just two defeats in their previous 45 matches across all competitions. Two of those wins came against England in the 2018 World Cup. Those two losses also came on the road.

At home, seeking revenge, with a chance to possibly wrap up first place in the group, I’ll give the edge to the top-ranked Belgians.

Pick: Belgium win (+137)

Pick 2: Belarus vs Lithuania

It’s first versus second in League C Group 4 at 12:00 pm EST on Sunday.

Belarus leads the group with seven points, ahead of Lithuania (5 pts), Albania (5 pts) and Kazakhstan (4 pts).

After a 2-0 loss to Albania, Belarus has scored two goals in each of their next three matches. During the last international break, they drew with Lithuania 2-2 and were 2-0 winners over Kazakhstan.

Their opponents, Lithuania, recorded a 0-0 draw at home to Albania in their last match, after the teams’ 2-2 draw. Their three goals scored in four matches don’t look impressive, though they’ve played Albania twice already and failed to score in either match. The Albanians keep things tight with only two goals scored and one conceded themselves.

Belarus certainly looks like the more in-form side, but during their 2-2 draw, Lithuania held the advantage in attempts (12-8) and shots on target (5-3).

Vitali Lisakovich is one of the top performers in this league so far with two goals and one assist in four games for Belarus. He scored one of those goals versus Lithuania when these teams last met.

I think we see at least a couple of goals in this matchup again. Simply betting OVER 1.5 goals could get you a small return at -188 odds, or could be a good addition to a parlay. But backing goals from both sides is my best bet for this one.

Pick: Both Teams to Score (+125)

Pick 3: Czech Republic vs Israel

In League B Group 2 at 2:45 pm EST third-place Israel travels to face the second-placed Czech Republic.

These teams met on October 11 which ended in a 2-1 road win for the Czechs. However, the Czechs had just a single shot on target and were also aided by an Israeli own goal 14 minutes into the match. They followed that up with a 1-0 loss to Scotland. The Czech Republic has also won 3-1 over Slovakia and suffered another defeat to Scotland 2-1.

Israel may be third in this group but they’re only a point behind the Czechs and have just that one loss. They drew 1-1 to both Scotland and Slovakia in their first two matches and were 3-2 winners over Slovakia on the road on October 13. Also, outside of their opening draw with Scotland, in Israel’s last three matches they have held the advantage in possession, attempts and shots on target.

If Israel is to take something from this match Eran Zahavi will likely factor into the equation. He’s scored five times in four Nations League matches including Israel’s lone goal against the Czechs. He then scored a hat-trick in his side’s 3-2 win over Slovakia. He was injured or out of the lineup in three of PSV’s next four matches. But he’s now scored in two of PSV’s three matches in November—scoring once in the Eredivisie and once in the Europa League.

You can find fantastic odds on him as an anytime scorer in this match at +240 odds.

Three of four Czech Republic matches have seen both teams score as well as three or four goals being scored in total. While all four Israel matches have seen both teams scoring. This could be an open game where both teams score and we see a few goals (BTTS & OVER 2.5 +130), but both teams scoring alone is offered at a decent price itself.

More Betting Notes from the Sunday Nations League Card

Moldova vs Greece

Moldova has scored just one goal in four matches and none in their past three. While Greece has only conceded a single goal in four and has only scored four goals themselves. They have back-to-back clean sheets including a 2-0 home win over Moldova. This has to look like a prime UNDER 2.5 play (-150).

Austria vs Northern Ireland

Austria is tied atop League B Group 1 with nine points while Northern Ireland is fourth with just a single point. While Austria has scored six and allowed four in their four matches, five of those goals came in a 3-2 loss to Romania. Otherwise, their results have read: 2-1 (W Norway), 1-0 (W Northern Ireland) and 1-0 (W Romania).

Northern Ireland can’t score. They have just two goals in four while allowing eight. But five of those conceded goals came in a 5-1 blowout loss to Norway. Their other three results have all seen two goals or fewer, a 1-1 draw and two 1-0 losses.

On Thursday Northern Ireland played Slovakia with a chance to advance to the European Championships. They lost 2-1 in extra-time but only drew level on an 87′ minute Slovakian own goal. Slovakia’s opening goal also came off a terrible giveaway by Northern Ireland’s George Saville. UNDER 2.5 (-125).

North Macedonia vs Estonia

Macedonia have three-straight draws and one of which came versus Estonia back in October, a 3-3 result. The other two draws were by 1-1 scorelines. Estonia are off two draws of their own. The aforementioned result against Macedonia and a 1-1 draw with Armenia. Both of those results came at home. They also have a 1-0 home loss to Georgia. In their loan away match they lost 2-0 to Armenia.

Already in last place in League C Group 2 after playing three of four at home is not good. But if you think they can at least find the scoresheet again against Macedonia, both teams to score at -110 odds looks like a simple bet. These odds were +100 earlier in the week.

North Macedonia is also coming off a Thursday match against Georgia which saw them win 1-0 to advance to the Euros for the first time ever. They should be both confident, but also likely a little tired and distracted for this match on Sunday.

Making his 115th appearance for his national side, 37-year-old Goran Pandev has scored the goal that will send North Macedonia to their first major tournament.

Bulgaria vs Finland

Bulgaria has just a single goal in four matches and that came in their opening match against the Republic of Ireland, a 1-1 draw. Since, they’ve lost 1-0, 2-0 and 1-0. The 2-0 defeat was to this same Finland side in Helsinki.

Including friendlies (three), Bulgaria had just a single win in their last 19 matches across all competitions heading into this week. However, they did play Gibraltar in a friendly on Wednesday which they won 3-0. They’re now 1-1-5 (WDL) in their past seven.

Finland meanwhile, has won three-straight in the Nations League, while not conceding a goal. On Wednesday they defeated France on the road (2-0) in a friendy. Bulgaria is a huge step down from the French. And Finland is a big step up from Gibraltar. Teemu Pukki and co. look good value (+130) for a road win in this one.

Romania vs Norway

During the last international break, Romania scored zero goals and conceded five in 4-0 and 1-0 losses. The 4-0 defeat came in Norway to a Norwegian side that is flying with 11 goals in four matches. Slowing down the likes of Erling Haaland and Alexander Sorloth who had a hat-trick and one goal respectively when these teams last met looks like a tough ask.

Norway to score at least twice (OVER 1.5 team goals +110, down from +125 earlier in the week), or both teams scoring with OVER 2.5 goals (+130) could be worth a look. So too is Haaland (-120) or Sorloth (+162) as anytime scorers. Each has already taken some money as they were priced at -105 and +187 respectively earlier this week.

Italy vs Poland

It was a 0-0 scoreline when these teams met in October. Italy was able to control much of the play with 59-percent possession and an advantage in attempts on goal at 16-4. Though both teams had three shots on target.

Now the scene switches to Italy where the Italians have drawn the Netherlands and Bosnia & Herzegovina 1-1. Italy has scored just three and allowed two in four matches.

Poland has five goals scored compared to just two conceded as well, though all five goals have been scored against Bosnia & Herzegovina. Their other matches were the aforementioned draw with Italy and a 1-0 loss to the Netherlands. This could very well be another draw and most likely a low-scoring affair. I’ll give the edge to Italy pulling off a narrow home win though.
