Gauff’s Second French Open Quarterfinal

Gauff has yet to lose a set this year at the tournament, and in her most recent match, during the fourth round of the French Open, she only lost four games.

The 18-year-old went on to defeat Elise Mertens 6-4, 6-0. Mertens was the first seeded player that Gauff went up against, but third-round opponent Kaia Kanepi was an experienced opponent that gave the American a tough go.

With this year’s quarterfinal appearance, Gauff will be making her second straight French Open quarterfinal appearance.

Stephens Is on a Roll

Stephens, who was a runner-up at this tournament in 2018, is playing some of the best tennis she has played in recent time.

Over the four matches Stephens has played, she’s lost a total two sets, but has upset 26th seed Sorana Cirstea, and 23rd seed Jil Teichmann. It was her most recent match where she defeated Teichmann in straight sets, to earn her spot in her first Grand Slam quarterfinals since 2019.

Second Meeting Between Gauff and Stephens

This will be the second time this all-American matchup will happen. Their first meeting happen at the beginning of the French Open last year, where Stephens won in straight sets. Stephens went on to win 6-4, 6-2.

Gauff vs Stephens Best Bet

Gauff is the favorite heading into this due to her recent form and her record. The 18-year-old has won 18 of her 28 matches this season.

Although both players have been playing well on clay, and have had successes at Grand Slams, specifically this one, Sloane is just starting to find her rhythm again, while Gauff is well into hers.

We’ll see Gauff come out aggressive and try to put the pressure on Stephens. This is something we’ve seen recently. But Stephens will most likely counter the same. Both players are strong on defense, but always find themselves winning when they’ve stayed on the offense, and were able to dictate the match.

Stephens has been dealing with consistency issues off and on for a bit. She’s definitely playing more consistent at the moment, but in terms of the player we’ll see come out on Tuesday. It’s not a guarantee.

This will be an exciting quarterfinal match, but expect Gauff to come out on top here, and continue her run at the 2022 French Open.

Best Bet: Coco Gauff 2-0 (+110)
