The path to a second French Open women’s singles title in three appears to be clearing for world #1 Iga Swiatek. The top seed in the tournament, Poland’s Swiatek is the only one of the top-10 seeds still in action. American Jessica Pegula, the #11 seed, is holding the second-highest seeding of the remaining contenders.

Swiatek is facing unseeded Qinwen Zheng of China in her Round of 16 match. Swiatek was the heavy -110 favorite in the opening WTA French Open odds.  American Cori “Coco” Gauff, who opened at odds of +2000, offered the second-shortest betting line among players still in the hunt at Roland Garros.

Round of 16 matches in the WTA French Open are slated to get underway at 5:00 am ET on Monday, May 30 with the Daria Kasatkina vs Camila Giorgi match. All of the matches will be broadcast on the Tennis Channel and TSN in Canada.

Swiatek vs Zheng Prediction

The 2020 French Open champion, Swiatek is the only previous winner of this event stil in the field. And she is on an incredible run.

Swiatek has won her last 31 matches. It’s been 103 days since she was beaten by Jelena Ostapenko in a third-set tiebreaker in the Round of 16 in Dubai. Not only that, but she’s won 44 of her past 45 sets. Now that’s complete and utter dominance.

The talented Pole is 17-2 all-time at Roland Garro, fashioning a winning percentage of .895. In the history of this Grand Slam event, only Margaret Court, Chris Evert and Steffi Graf boast higher winning percentages.

It seems silly to consider Swiatek a veteran at 21 but in this match, she’s facing an up-and-coming star in China’s Qinwen Zheng. Just 19, Zheng is playing in her first French Open. However, she’s already knocked off 2018 French Open champ Simona Halep.

Could she follow in the footsteps of Leylah Fernandez and Emma Raducanu as a teenager making big noise at a Grand Slam tournament? Maybe, but who’s betting against Swiatek at this point?

Pick: Over 17.5 games (-120)

Kasatkina vs Giorgi Prediction

In their only previous meeting, world #20 Kasatkina downed world #30 Giorgi 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 in the quarterfinals at Lyon in 2020. Kasatkina has known success at Roland Garros. She was the 2014 French Open junior champion.

Kasatkina is 20-10 this season, including a 10-3 slate on clay. She’s yet to drop a set through three rounds at Roland Garros, and hasn’t lost more than three games in any set.

Giorgi is just 7-7 on the year and 3-3 when playing on clay. She’s needed to go three sets to win two of her first three French Open matches. Each time, Giorgi rallied after losing the first set.

Pick: Daria Kasatkina (-200)

Upset of the Day: Take Begu to Topple Pegula

Beyond Swiatek, it’s been a graveyard for top seeds at Roland Garros. Some of those upsets have certainly been helping Romania’s Irina-Camelia Begu. Amzingly, the unseeded Begu is into the Round of 16 and has faced just one seeded player. She beat Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova, the #30 seed, 6-7(3-7), 6-3, 6-4 in the second round.

Could this be a breakthrough tournament for world #11 Pegula as far as Grand Slam events go? She’s reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open each of the past two years. This is as far as she’s ever advanced on the clay at Roland Garros, though.

Pegula is 10-3 on clay-court surfaces this year and reached the final in Madrid. However, she’s winless in two matches against Begu.

Begu beat Pegula in straight sets earlier this year in Melbourne and at Indian Wells in 2020. She’s 7-2 this season on clay.

Pick: Irina-Camelia Begu (+190)

French Open Parlay Pick

Looking for a chance to hit it big on a small wager? Parlays are an exciting and potentially lucrative method for betting on tennis. Here’s a French Open women’s singles Round of 16 parlay play to ponder.

Start with the Kasatkina-Giorgi match. Take Kasatkina to win the first set at -175. Go with the over 17.5 games on the Swiatek-Zheng match at -120. Finally, add in Veronika Kudermetova to beat Madison Keys at +100. A $10 wager on this three-leg parlay will payout $47.62.
