World #3 Alexander Zverev is a heavy betting favorite against #69 Tallon Griekspoor in the Round of 64 at the National Bank Open in Montreal on Wednesday, August 5 (12:20 PM ET).
From a betting perspective, the lopsided odds present a classic puzzle for handicappers: lay heavy juice on an elite server, take a flyer on an overmatched longshot, or hunt for ancillary market value? In this context, I’m going with the lattermost option.
Zverev vs Griekspoor Pick: Over 20.5 Games (57¢ at Kalshi)
While Zverev is the rightful favorite to advance, I refuse to chase a short moneyline at the current price (91¢). Instead, I am targeting over 20.5 games at Kalshi. Griekspoor consistently pushes the German standout into deep waters.
The Netherlands native brings a gritty baseline stability that allows him to hold serve at a high clip against Zverev. Seven of their 11 documented head-to-head encounters have required at least one tiebreak. Three of those recent battles – Munich, Indian Wells, and Shanghai – went the maximum three sets. In their 2025 Indian Wells clash, Griekspoor forced two tiebreaks to secure one of his two head-to-head victories, proving he has the requisite return game to push the match distance.
The Elo gap helps explain why I am not chasing the underdog moneyline while still liking the over. Zverev sits No. 3 on the ATP Elo board at 2,114.5 overall and 2,048.9 on hard courts, while Griekspoor is No. 70 overall at 1,763.8 and No. 44 in hard-court Elo at 1,755.1. That roughly 294-point hard-court gap makes Zverev a clear favorite, but it doesn’t necessarily portend a blowout. With the win probability already baked into the moneyline, the better angle is whether Griekspoor can extend one set.
Recent results support that read. Griekspoor opened Montreal by beating Lorenzo Sonego in two tight sets, 7-6, 7-5, and his 2026 hard-court ledger also includes serve-driven wins over Andrey Rublev (7-5, 7-6), Alexander Bublik (6-3, 7-6), and Quentin Halys (7-5, 7-6). Those are over-friendly scorelines, and they align with a matchup history in which Griekspoor often loses the match but still pushes Zverev past clean straight-set territory.
At 57¢ on Kalshi, over 20.5 games carries a raw implied probability of 57%. With the under priced at 44¢, the market’s normalized probability is roughly 56.4%. Given their undeniable tendency to play grueling, tightly contested sets on hardcourts, this price still offers a clear angle in a spot where Griekspoor’s service metrics historically hold up.
Griekspoor vs Zverev Prices & Odds
The Kalshi board makes Zverev a 91¢ favorite, with Griekspoor’s upset contract sitting at 10¢. Zverev to win 2-0 sets is the shortest exact-score outcome at 70¢, but the total is where I see the better betting conversation:
Over 20.5 games is priced at 57¢, while Zverev -5.5 games is just 31¢. That combination implies the market expects Zverev to win often, but not necessarily by a runaway margin – an ideal setup for an over look if Griekspoor can force one extended set.
H2H Record: Griekspoor vs Zverev
Zverev dictates this rivalry with a 9-2 overall record. In their most recent clash at the United Cup in January 2026, Zverev put on an absolute serving clinic to win in straight sets. he fired 15 aces without committing a single double fault, winning an overwhelming 88.8% (32 of 36) of his first-serve points.
However, Griekspoor’s wins at ATP Rotterdam in 2023 and ATP Indian Wells in 2025 highlight his ability to force the German into high-leverage situations. The sheer volume of tiebreaks in their historical data underscores Griekspoor’s ability to protect his service games, validating my statistical read on the Over in this Round of 64 matchup.
