The WNBA Championship odds are starting to come into form as a separation of some of the top teams in the league becomes more obvious.

Teams will continue to fight for playoff positioning beginning Aug. 15th until Sept. 19th, the final day of the regular season schedule before postseason action tips off on Sept. 23rd for the top eight teams in the standings.

Las Vegas, Seattle Remain Favorites

For most of the season, Las Vegas and Seattle have been favorites to win the WNBA Championship. Coming out of the Olympic break, that remains the same with the Aces as favorites (+220) and the Storm very close behind (+230).

Seattle wrapped up the first half of the regular season atop the league standings, holding a record of 16-5 overall while holding a one-game lead over Las Vegas for the top spot in the WNBA. Las Vegas will begin the final stretch of the season with a record of 15-6 overall, closely following Seattle in what has been a back-and-forth battle for the top seed.

The 2020 season saw the Aces and Storm reach the WNBA Finals, with Seattle sweeping the series to win the league title. That could very well be the case again this year, and the odds reflect that.

Connecticut, Minnesota and Chicago Next in Line

Behind Las Vegas and Seattle, the trio of Connecticut (+600), Minnesota (+750) and Chicago (+1200) are the next wave of teams for favorites to come out as the top team in the WNBA at the end of the postseason.

The Sun enter the post-Olympic break schedule with a record of 14-6, sitting in third place in the standings. The Lynx, winners of seven straight, are 12-7 and in the fourth seed, and the Sky, who are 7-3 in their last 10 games, are 10-10 overall and in fifth place.

All three of those teams could make a push in the playoffs and could be worth watching when it comes to who might upset the Aces or Storm when postseason play begins.

Biggest Jump, Biggest Step Back

In the odds coming out of the Olympic break compared to the odds going into it, Minnesota and Phoenix saw bit of jumps behind strong finishes to the first half of the schedule. The Lynx, now with odds of +750, had been one of the hottest teams in the WNBA, while the Mercury have odds of +2000 while holding onto the seventh seed.

Los Angeles took the biggest step back in the odds, having gone into the break losers of seven straight with a record of 6-13. The Sparks are tied with Atlanta for the second-lowest odds at +10000.

Best Bet

Now with a better idea of how teams stand with a dozen or so games remaining in the regular season, there are two frontrunners to keep an eye on to round out the year. Those two teams are Las Vegas and Seattle, both of which will likely return to the WNBA Finals barring an upset in the playoffs.

Although the Aces have a slight edge over the Storm in the odds, Seattle is a team worth following more closely to see how the top team in the standings rounds out of the home stretch of the year. The Storm have been the best team in the WNBA all season long, so the best bet for which team could win it all and win you some money, go with Seattle to repeat.

  • The Pick: Seattle (+230)
