The above win totals are from prior to the season kicking off. Most bets on the win totals market come in ahead of kickoff, and it’s what we’ll grade teams against, so we wanted to freeze the above.

The teams with the highest regular season wins over/unders entering the season were the Ravens and Rams at 11.5. Though, the under was favored with Baltimore, while the Rams were given slightly better odds to go over 11.5 than under. All of the Bills, Bengals, Lions, Packers, Chiefs, Chargers, Eagles, and Seahawks were close behind at 10.5. The Dolphins had the lowest projected win total at just 3.5.

It is worth noting the win totals suggested a lack of any elite teams in the league, with no team sporting a win total higher than 11.5. There are just a lot of very good teams, according to the betting lines.

While teams can make drastic changes from one season to the next, it’s worth knowing how many wins each team racked up last year, as well as over the past three seasons.

The Broncos, Patriots, and Seahawks won the most games in the NFL last season, each going 14-3. Looking over the past three seasons, the Bills, Lions, and Eagles have won an average of 12 games per season, the highest in the league.

The Titans, Jets, Raiders, and Cardinals won the fewest games in the league last season, each going 3-14. Over the past three seasons, the Titans have won the fewest average games, only winning four games per year.

How to Read NFL Win Total Odds

If this is your first time looking at NFL win totals, the numbers above might be incomprehensible. The easiest way to read win totals is in the table format, where the first column lists the teams, the second column lists the current win total, the third column lists the over odds, and the fourth column lists the under odds.

It’s easiest to understand using examples. Let’s say you want to bet on the Arizona Cardinals, the first team on the list. Looking at the second column, you can see their win total is set at 4.5. If they win five or more games, they have hit the over. If they win four or fewer games, they have hit the under. The odds in columns three and four determine the payout for over bettors and under bettors, respectively.

If you wager $100 on Arizona to go over 4.5 at -110 odds, you will profit $90.90 if they win five or more games. If you wager $100 on Arizona to go under 4.5 at -110 odds, you will profit $90.90 if they win fewer than five games.

How to Bet on NFL Win Totals

Once you have found the wager you would like to make, betting on NFL win totals is as simple as placing any other type of bet. Find the NFL win totals section at your sportsbook of choice and click on the over or under. Be warned, though, that different sportsbooks list the over/under options in different orders.

Some sportsbooks will list the option (over or under) with the shorter odds first. This means you could see the over or under listed as the first option to click. Other sportsbooks keep it uniform and just list the over first and the under second. Just be sure you double-check you have loaded the correct bet into your bet slip before actually placing the wager.

Another thing to consider is how each team has fared last year and in the previous few seasons. Teams can change drastically from one year to another, but some teams manage to keep their coaching staffs and core players together year-after-year. Here’s a quick look at each team’s record last season as well as their average wins over the last three years:

NFL Win Totals Betting Tips

Before you do start making any bets, it’s important to note that there are 272 possible wins available in a 17-game season, but sportsbooks often go over that number in their opening win totals.

This year, the sum of win totals was 275.5 at opening, which is 3.5 wins more than possible. It is often a little more like this because the general public is typically optimistic and bets overs.

There are three teams whose win totals stand out to me as being mispriced. Here’s how I’m betting those:

  1. Buffalo Bills over 10.5 wins
  2. Indianapolis Colts over 8.5 wins
  3. Kansas City Chiefs over 10.5 wins

I like the Bills with a more offensive-minded approach under Joe Brady, and the aggressive mindset their defense will have under Jim Leonhard. Josh Allen is a top two QB in the NFL, and I like him to take a step forward as the team prioritizes his weapons. Buffalo has won at least 11 games in each of the last six seasons.

The Colts looked like one of the best teams in football when Daniel Jones was healthy last season. I appreciate he may not be up to full speed for Week 1, and may even miss a couple games, but I like the Colts to get back to winning with Jones under center.

The Chiefs suffered through their worst season since 2012 last year, but I like them to bounce back in 2026-27. Patrick Mahomes will get back to MVP-level play at QB with the return of Eric Bieniemy, and the Chiefs will win 11+ games, just as they have done in nine of the last 11 seasons.

You should also consult my proper method for calculating NFL strength of schedule before making any win totals bets, as well as my NFL record predictions.
