After grabbing a split in Winnipeg, the Dallas Stars head home trying to take advantage of their home ice in Game 3 of their Round 2 series against the Jets.

Winnipeg was almost wiped out of the NHL playoff bracket in Round 1 because of its inability to win on the road.

Now, as +126 moneyline underdogs, they seek their first road win of the playoffs — a must if they have any hopes of advancing to the Western Conference Finals

Jets vs Stars Game 3 Prediction

• Over 5.5 goals (-110 at Caesars)

My prediction Sunday is going against the recent trend and taking the Over.

This is something that hasn’t happened in 10 straight games between these two combatants, and this will be the thrid time in this series the total stays at 5.5.

Two factors come into play here. One is that the Stars are one of the best offensive teams in hockey, ranking third in scoring during the regular season, and eighth at home, where they averaged 3.41 goals per game.

The other is that, despite Connor Hellebuyck delivering his best performance of the postseason, he’s been absolutely torched outside the friendly confines of the ManuLife Centre in Winnipeg.

Hellebuyck, who’s a lock for the Vezina and a strong candidate in Hart Trophy consideration as MVP of the league, has been chased from his three starts on the road, and has allowed at least five goals in each of those starts.

Not surprisingly, each of those game crossed the total, with 22 goals scored across those three contests.

Dallas goalie Jake Oettinger didn’t get the job done in Game 2, allowing three goals on 24 shots, just the third time in the playoffs he’s had a save percentage below .900.

While the Stars have won three of four games at home in these playoffs, the Over has hit in three of them.

So while the trend calls for an Under, there’s enough evidence here to wager on this being the outlier.

Puck drop is scheduled for 1:30 pm PT / 4:30 pm ET from American Airlines Center, in Dallas, TX, with TBS providing the American coverage, and Sportsnet handling Canadian broadcasting duties.

Dallas took three of four home games in Round 1, and were a crisp 28-10-3 at home during the regular season, the 4th-best record in the West. Winnipeg was an impressive 26-15-0 on the road during the regular season, which led the NHL, but they’ve yet to be competitive away from home these playoffs, let alone win.

The bets odds we can get on the Jets to win Game 1 is +126 at Caesars. The Stars are -146 moneyline favorites over at Fanduel, while the total sits at 5.5 across the board, with -110 odds on both ends. Dallas is also laying 1.5 goals on the puck line, getting +185 odds to cover.

Checking the NHL public betting trends, Dallas is getting the majority of moneyline bets at 59%, but 51% of the money is backing Winnipeg. The public is also thinking Over in Game 3, as 73% of the bets and 66% of the money anticipates at least six goals combined by these squads.
