The Detroit Red Wings head to the Scotiabank Saddledome to face the Calgary Flames in Saturday’s late window. Puck drop is set for 10pm ET.
Goal prevention has been a problem in Calgary early on. The Flames do have a power play that can swing a game, though, which makes this more than a one-sided read.
Sportsbooks already have a lean on this one, and so do I. My Red Wings vs Flames picks are up first.
Red Wings vs Flames Picks
- Red Wings Moneyline (-149 at BetMGM)
My top Red Wings vs Flames pick is Detroit to win outright. The Red Wings (4-3-3) are scoring 2.70 goals per game and allowing 2.80. The Flames (3-6-0) are scoring just 2.11 while giving up 4.22.
That means Calgary is getting outscored by more than two goals per game on average. Detroit has also held opponents to 25.6 shots per game, while the Flames have allowed 30.7.
Red Wings vs Flames Key Stats
Detroit also has more forwards chipping in. Alex DeBrincat leads the way with 6 goals and 12 points in 10 games, plus 39 shots on goal. Lucas Raymond has 9 points on 32 shots, Viktor Arvidsson has 8 points and Dylan Larkin has 5 in eight games.
On the Calgary side, Morgan Frost, Matt Coronato and Joel Farabee each have 6 points through nine games. Yegor Sharangovich has 4. That’s a thinner group going up against a Detroit team that keeps shot volume down.
Red Wings vs Flames Odds
The latest Red Wings vs Flames odds at BetMGM have Detroit at -149, a 59.8% implied chance. Calgary sits at +125, which translates to about 44.4%.
Removing the vig puts the market estimate near 57.4% for Detroit and 42.6% for Calgary. That’s the book’s read, not a true win probability. You can compare prices across books on our NHL odds page before puck drop.
Detroit -1.5 pays +155, good for roughly a 39.2% implied shot. The total is set at 6 goals, with the Over at -118 and the Under at -102.

Red Wings vs Flames Prediction
My Red Wings vs Flames prediction is a Detroit win. Calgary’s special teams are the main reason this price isn’t steeper.
The Flames’ power play is converting at 26.1%, and Detroit’s penalty kill sits at 69.4%. Frost and Coronato each have two power-play goals, so the Wings can’t spend much time in the box.
Detroit’s own power play faces a tough test too. The Wings are at 22.2% with the man advantage, but Calgary is killing 83.9% of its penalties. Arvidsson has three power-play goals to lead the Detroit charge.
Red Wings vs Flames Goalie Outlook
Starting goalies remain unconfirmed for this preview. John Gibson is 3-3-1 with a 3.35 GAA and .871 save percentage in seven starts. Daniil Tarasov has been sharper in a smaller sample, going 1-0-2 with a 1.40 GAA and .940 save percentage in three starts.
For Calgary, Dustin Wolf is 1-4 with a 4.85 GAA and .834 save percentage in five starts. Devin Cooley is 2-2 with a 3.26 GAA and .900 mark in four starts.
A Gibson vs Cooley matchup would give Calgary the edge in the crease based on season numbers. If it’s Tarasov vs Wolf, that swings hard toward Detroit.
Either way, I’m laying -149 with the Red Wings. They score more, allow fewer shots and have more forwards producing. As long as Detroit stays out of the penalty box, its scoring edge should carry it in Calgary.
