  • Hawaii visits El Paso for a Saturday night Mountain West clash with UTEP
  • The Hawaii vs UTEP odds show a clear favorite but a coin-flip spread
  • Read below for my prediction, best bets and the key stats behind them

The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors visit the UTEP Miners on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Sun Bowl in El Paso. Kickoff is set for 9:30pm ET on FS1, and it marks UTEP’s first time hosting Hawaii in 22 years.

Hawaii (2-6, 1-4 Mountain West) comes off a bye after a 56-21 win over Northern Illinois on Oct. 24. UTEP (1-7, 0-4 Mountain West) is still looking for its first conference win after a 31-7 loss to North Dakota State on Oct. 31.

The latest college football odds favor the visitors. Below, I break down my Hawaii vs UTEP prediction and two bets for Saturday night.

Hawaii vs UTEP Prediction

  • Pick: Hawaii Moneyline
  • Pick: Under 48.5 Total Points

Hawaii holds a significant gap in offensive production over UTEP. The Rainbow Warriors average 365.4 yards per game, comfortably clear of UTEP’s 280.3 yards and 14.13 points per contest. Hawaii also arrives rested after its bye week.

I expect Hawaii to win outright, but I do not see a high-scoring game. UTEP has struggled to sustain drives all season, and Hawaii’s 20.75 points per game do not point to a runaway scoreboard. My prediction is a Hawaii win in a game that stays under 48.5 points.

Hawaii vs UTEP Odds

Hawaii Moneyline75¢75%
UTEP Moneyline26¢26%
Hawaii -9.550¢50%
Over 48.551¢51%
Under 48.551¢51%

Odds as of Friday, Nov. 6.

Each Kalshi contract pays $1 if it wins, so a 75¢ price on Hawaii implies a 75% chance. The market sees Hawaii as a clear favorite but prices the -9.5 spread at 50¢, a coin flip on a double-digit win. The total is priced almost evenly on both sides.

Hawaii vs UTEP Best Bets

My Hawaii vs UTEP best bets lean on the clearest gaps in the season numbers. Hawaii moves the ball through the air and protects it better, while UTEP has struggled on third down and in pass protection.

Red Zone TD %46.7% (14/30)47.1% (8/17)
Sacks128
Sacks Allowed2040
Turnover Margin+2-4

The sack numbers stand out most. UTEP has allowed 40 sacks, twice Hawaii’s total, and converts just 26.2% of third downs. Hawaii also holds a +2 turnover margin (11 takeaways, nine giveaways) against UTEP’s -4 (nine takeaways, 13 giveaways).

Hawaii vs UTEP Best Bet #1: Hawaii Moneyline

Hawaii relies heavily on quarterback Micah Alejado, who went 22-for-32 for 323 yards and three touchdowns against Northern Illinois. He has thrown for 2,186 yards, nine touchdowns and six interceptions on a 59.9% completion rate, averaging 273.3 passing yards per game.

Alejado should have time to throw against a UTEP defense with just eight sacks all season. DeVon Rice gives the offense balance with 385 rushing yards and six touchdowns, so Hawaii is not one-dimensional when it gets close to the goal line.

UTEP’s quarterback picture is less settled. EJ Colson Jr. started last game against North Dakota State and went 11-for-16 for 59 yards and two interceptions. He has 687 passing yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions this season.

Raymond Moore III has also played under center, adding 437 passing yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He leads the Miners with 481 rushing yards and three scores, but UTEP has not found a consistent answer in the passing game.

At 75¢, Hawaii carries a 75% implied chance to win. With a rested offense, a better turnover margin and a pass rush facing a line that has allowed 40 sacks, I am comfortable taking that price.

Hawaii vs UTEP Best Bet #2: Under 48.5

UTEP’s inability to move the chains points toward a grind-it-out affair. The Miners average 14.13 points per game and 144.25 passing yards, which makes it hard for them to keep pace in a shootout.

Red zone finishing also supports the Under. Hawaii scores on 70% of its red zone trips but reaches the end zone on just 46.7% of them, and UTEP’s touchdown rate sits at 47.1%. Field goals instead of touchdowns help keep a total like this in check.

Hawaii’s 20.75 points per game is not a high-volume number, even after the 56-point outburst against Northern Illinois. UTEP’s 136 rushing yards per game can also shorten possessions, so I like Under 48.5 at 51¢.
