In one of the crazier Sweet 16 matchups, the sixth-seeded Creighton Bluejays (23-12, 18-17 ATS) face the fifteenth-seeded Princeton Tigers (23-8, 19-12 ATS) on Friday, March 24, in Sacramento. A date in the Elite Eight awaits the winner.

Oddsmakers rode very high on Creighton, setting the spread at ten points, depending on the site.

Creighton generates some traction here because there was some higher expectations on the Bluejays earlier in the season. Now, the Bluejays went on a six-game cold streak which doused some of those hot takes.

Princeton turned up the heat in the second half against Missouri and the Tigers from the Midwest could not keep up. Princeton outscored Missouri 45-37. Matt Allocco led the team with seven assists and Ryan Langborg led the team with four three-pointers made. Princeton drained 12 shots from beyond the three-point line in all. This is a team that uses its ability to rebound well to generate more opportunities. Eventually, teams get worn out playing their style.

Creighton Turned up the Heat on Baylor Too

Creighton carries zero candidates in the Wooden Award odds, but this Bluejays team is on a roll right now. One of the things early in the season that got overlooked was their balance. Yes, Creighton can go ice cold from the field and they do not generate a lot of turnovers. However, they play a hard, yet elevated tempo. Baylor saw that first-hand over the weekend. With five scorers in double digits that can all grab 4+ rebounds a game, Creighton can add to their scoring chances.

Now, Ryan Nembhard plays a vital role for Creighton in this game. He has to take care of the ball. The generously listed 6-foot guard carries a lot of weight on his shoulders. He has been here before. Princeton’s defense attacks a little differently but Nembhard might be up for the challenge. It makes for a great chess match all game long.

Creighton holds an advantage with their adaptive game and balance. Ryan Kalkbrenner is a handful at 7-foot, but swing guard Baylor Schierman takes the pressure off Nembhard. With players who can move the ball around fast, the Bluejays get wide-open looks far better than Missouri or even Arizona. Will Creighton shoot 15% from beyond the arc or 45.8% like they did versus Baylor?
