The rumors of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson teeing it up alongside NFL legends Tom Brady and Peyton Manning have been confirmed with the foursome competing in a match in May. While the exact date hasn’t been finalized, it will most likely take place between May 15th-24th.

The event is expected to be named “The Match: Champions for Charity” which will pit Tiger and Manning together in a duel against Mickelson and Brady. A golf course has not been finalized, but it is believed the Medalist Golf Club in Florida might be the destination, where Woods is a member.

Peyton and TB12 have similar golf games, with the former Colts and Broncos Super Bowl winning QB having a slight advantage over the six-time SB champ. Which duo should you place a wager on?

Mickelson Beat Tiger in First ‘Match’

Never underestimate Phil Mickelson’s ability and intensity at winning money games, which he is legendary for.

Lefty is no stranger to plunking down big cash for ‘friendly’ battles, and he won the first match as a +160 underdog. That match went the distance and then four extra holes before he emerged victorious.

Mickelson’s results in his last six worldwide events were all over the map, however, with a pair of third place finishes mixed in with four missed cuts so it’s hardly to fully trust him.

Tiger, meanwhile, has only played twice in 2020, finishing in a tie for ninth at the Farmers Insurance Open and last among those that made the cut at the Genesis Invitational.

From all accounts, El Tigre has rested up and is feeling better, and if it is held at Medalist Golf Club, he’ll have the distinct advantage, being a member.

Manning Slightly Better Golfer Than Brady

Manning and Woods being paired together is surprising, as Peyton is the better golfer than Brady.

I originally had said Brady’s team would win before the duos were announced, figuring Tom would play with Tiger, so now it seems almost too easy picking against Brady and Phil.

Manning played in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February, finishing in a tie for 9th alongside pro Luke Donald, while Brady sat it out. There have been reports before that Brady doesn’t monitor his handicap as closely as Manning, so he could in fact be slightly worse than the 8.1 index that he plays to, compared to a 6.4 handicap for Manning.

The Best Bet

Mickelson could ask Tiger for a couple of shots during the round to make up for his partner not being as strong as Tiger’s, but do you really think Lefty’s ego would accept getting shots for the match?

Hardly.

For that reason, and for Tiger to want to exact revenge from his first loss in 2018 on a course he’s more familiar with, the choice is clear.

Pick: Tiger Woods/Peyton Manning Win (-200)
