The stars will be out in Seattle when the 2023 MLB All-Star Game takes center stage.
Apart from the loaded rosters that will dot the diamond, the biggest story will be the National League thing to avoid a 10th-straight loss to the American League in All-Star action.
Oddsmakers seem to be split down the middle on this one.
Action gets underway Tuesday (July 11) at 8pm ET from T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington. You can watch the game live on FOX.

American League | -117 | -1.5 (+172) | U 7.5 (-135) |

Probable Pitchers
Arizona Diamondbacks’ righty Zac Gallen will be getting the start in his first career all-star appearance.
It’s been a banner year for the 27-year-old, who enters the break tied for the league lead in wins (11), while cracking the top-10 in strikeouts.
A look at the pitch grips that have turned Zac Gallen into an All-Star game starter.

Gallen will likely get in an inning of work, and give way to a deep stable of arms.
However, there are notable NL names missing, including Atlanta’s Spencer Strider, the MLB strikeout leader, Cubs stud Marcus Stroman and Brewers’ closer Devin Williams. Dodgers’ ace Clayton Kershaw is also out due to injury.
Gallen vs Cole Stats
11-3 | Record | 9-3 |
3.04 | ERA | 2.85 |
1.05 | WHIP | 1.12 |
.265 | OBA | .290 |
5.43 | SO/W Ratio | 3.62 |
Veteran Gerrit Cole will get his first career all-star start for the American League. He’s tied for third in the AL in wins (9) and his 2.85 ERA is a sparkling sixth among all starters.
There’s plenty of aces waiting behind him, including Astros’ star Framber Valdez, who lead the majors in ERA (2.51).
A pair of hometown arms should also acquit themselves well. Luis Castillo is tied for sixth in ERA (2.85) and seventh in opponents’ batting average (.209), while George Kirby is tied for seventh with a 1.04 WHIP.
While we will get to see MLB home-run leader Shohei Ohtani hit in the 2-spot as a DH, a blister from his last start before the break means we won’t see him on the mound.
Players Worth Watching in ASG
How stacked is the National League lineup? Consider that Marlins 2B Luis Arraez is chasing .400 this season, and the leadoff man is probably not even close to the first name that comes to mind when discussing this devastating order.
There’s Ronald Acuna Jr of the Braves, the first player in history to reach 20 HR, 50 RBI and 40 stolen bases before the all-star break. He’s joined by teammate Matt Olson, who’s second in both HR (29) and RBI (72).
LA Dodger 1st baseman Freddie Freeman is fourth in hits and first in doubles, while teammate Mookie Betts is tied for third in home runs (26) and OPS (.965).

The American League is down some big boppers in reigning MVP Aaron Judge and Mike Trout, but there are plenty of Texas Rangers in the lineup, the team that led the majors in runs scored at the break.
Outfielder Adolis Garcia leads the bigs in RBI (75) and is tied for sixth in home runs (23), while second baseman Marcus Simien is tied for fourth in hits and third in doubles.
Toronto’s Bo Bichette is second in hits behind Arraez, while teammate Vlad Guerrero Jr is fresh off winning the 2023 home run derby.

MLB All-Star Game Prediction
This AL streak goes pretty far back, having won 21 of the last 25 head-to-head matchups with the NL.
If the National League plans on breaking the streak, they appear to have the better hitting lineup to do it, but they’ll be up against what looks like a sturdier pitching staff.
National League vs American League H2H Results
Year | Away Team | Home Team | Result |
---|---|---|---|
2022 | National League | American League | AL, 3-2 |
2021 | National League | American League | AL, 5-2 |
2019 | National League | American League | AL, 4-3 |
2018 | American League | National League | AL, 8-6 F/10 |
2017 | American League | National League | AL, 2-1 F/10 |
*2020 All-Star Game cancelled (COVID)
T-Mobile Park isn’t exactly hitter-friendly, either. Baseball Savant reports that the Mariners’ home field has suppressed scoring by 14% from 2021-23, the most of any MLB stadium during that period.
Let’s stick to the total in this one, as the teams have gone under in three straight meetings and five of the last six.
Pick: UNDER 7.5 runs (-135)
