When it rains, it pours, and the Yankees (57-52, 34-26 home) have to be feeling that way after a difficult week, even though they have to be pleased with Thursday’s 4-3 win over the Astros (62-48, 31-23 away) at Yankee Stadium.
Firstly, GM Brian Cashman made no significant additions at the deadline. Then, Domingo German had a clubhouse incident that led him to enter an alcohol abuse treatment center. Finally, Anthony Rizzo was placed on the injured list with a “likely” concussion traced back to May!
Trying to ignore the outside noise, the first pitch between the Astros and Yankees on Friday, August 4th is scheduled for 7:05 pm ET with Apple TV+ showing the game. Below, we dish out the Astros vs Yankees odds, while offering up our best bet and prediction.
Astros vs Yankees Odds
Team | Moneyline | Runline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Houston Astros | -145 | -1.5 (+115) | O 9 (-110) |
New York Yankees | +125 | +1.5 (-135) | U 9 (-110) |
Snapping a 7-game losing streak to the Astros on Thursday, the Yankees can breathe a sigh of relief after winning the series opener. Nonetheless, it’s the Astros who are -145 favorites to even things at a game apiece when they go head-to-head on Friday.
Unfortunately, a healthy amount of rain is in the forecast Friday evening in New York as there is a 70% chance of a thunderstorm during game time. Wind gusts are expected to blow around 22 miles per hour with temperatures in the low 70’s, but hopefully the wet weather will avoid the Bronx.

Houston vs New York (AL) Probable Pitchers
To begin the month of July, Hunter Brown struggled, but he impressed in his final two appearances of the month and hopes to carry that form over to his first start in August.

In his last two outings, Brown put up identical numbers of six innings pitched and two earned runs allowed, limiting the opposition to 10 hits total.
For some reason, Brown has pitched much better during the day then at night. The 24-year is 5-6 with a 4.81 ERA during night games this season.
Brown vs Schmidt Stats
7-7 | Record | 7-6 |
4.12 | ERA | 4.39 |
1.30 | WHIP | 1.32 |
.256 | OBA | .265 |
3.4 | SO/W Ratio | 3.4 |
This season has been nothing short of disaster for Luis Severino. Coming off his worst month of the year, where opponents batted over .400 against him, the Dominican native know has to deal one of the best MLB lineups.
In July, Severino had a despicable 11.22 ERA that has many Yankee fans thinking he’s been dealing with an injury. With Nestor Cortes ready to return from a stint on the 60-day injured list, another brutal start from Severino may cost him a spot in the rotation.

He gave seven or more earned runs in three starts last month. It’s no wonder the Yankees are underdog at home in the MLB odds given his form of late.
Astros vs Yankees Picks
Although New York drew first blood in this four game series, it seemed like they were on their heels the whole time after jumping out to a 3-0 first inning lead. The Bronx Bombers only managed to bang out five hits the entire game.
Houston made a huge move at the deadline to bring back Justin Verlander and are a legitimate top contender in the World Series odds.
Considering how poorly Severino has pitched lately, there’s no was we can bank on the home side. In fact, our prediction is the the Astros run up the score so take the visitors in a romp.
Pick: Houston Astros Run Line -1.5 (+115)
